We are really worried because we don’t seem to be connecting to our birth mother the way it seems many families have in the stories that are posted on your website. I know that every birth mother is different, but I had hoped for more interaction and to be able to get a feeling from our interaction with her. Does her lack of wanting contact with us mean she is less likely to follow through with her adoption plan?

November is a designated month to increase adoption awareness. Many newborns, young children, and teens in the United States are currently seeking a permanent home, a permanent family. Adoption brings so many families together and American Adoptions celebrates Adoption Month proudly! Megan, can you please explain to us again how the budget works. Our current match budget is $21,000, but as we have discussed, we could accept a match up to $25,000 pretty comfortably. We want to get as much exposure to birth parents as possible, but we hesitate to increase our budget knowing that you would still contact us if a match were to exceed our current budget. Of course we hope to stay closer to the $20,000 mark. Can you tell me again what the benefits are to increasing it as opposed to leaving it where it is? Thanks!

How do most birth mothers find American Adoptions? Is there a certain state or part of the country that you find most of your birth mothers?

Early this morning one year old David, the child that Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie are said to be adopting, arrived in London this morning with many security officials surrounding him. Carried by a nanny and covered with a sweat shirt. Madonna has made many news headlines this month with the rumors that she was in Malawi to adopt. Now making headlines with confirmation of those adoption rumors opinions are starting to fly about their speedy adoption.

We are trying to prepare for travel, knowing that when we get the call, we may have to travel at a moment’s notice. I am fully ready for this but we do have a couple concerns because my husband’s job is very demanding and hard for him to get away. Our two concerns are:

We have begun wondering about names. How does that work in adoption? Do we get to choose the baby’s name or do the birth parents choose the baby’s name? What if she doesn’t like the name we choose?

I don't know if you recall a previous email from me inquiring about asking for pictures from my daughter's birth mother.  You advised that I should ask in my next letter which is coming up in the next couple of weeks.  I discussed this with Milton and we decided together that was a good idea.  I wrote you back and said that is what I was going to do.  Before I could write the first word Michelle and Megan sent new photos of Teka's children.  I was a little bit confused by this since I didn't even ask yet and thought someone there had asked her for me.  I sent letters to Michelle and Megan asking if they had done it and the assured me that Teka had sent them unsolicited.

Megan, I've noticed that a lot of new couples have been added to the website in the past two weeks. How does American Adoptions control the number of active adoptive families in order to ensure the average waiting time for (already waiting) families? This part of the process confuses me. Thanks!

We feel like we are approaching that time when our home study and other file documents may need to be updated. Will American Adoptions notify us when documents need to be updated? I know we were told that certain things have to be kept current within one year and we don’t want to mess anything up!

I have a general question about our online profile.  I’ve noticed that recently, new families have the ability to add many more pictures to their profile – is this option open to currently active families and if so – how would I go about doing this?
