Hi Megan, we like to read through the profiles of other waiting families and there are definitely some differences in all the families, but we also notice a lot of similarities. What do birth mothers look for in an Adoptive Family? Will it hurt our wait time if I’m not a stay at home mother?

Megan, We have just activated and are beginning to find ourselves filled with anxiety jumping every time the phone rings. Are there any things we should be doing while we are waiting to be matched or things you suggest to help during this time?

Hi Megan, we hear a lot of different opinions about having contact with birthparents and we have heard several different definitions of what an open adoption is in comparison to a more closed or semi open adoption. Can you tell us your thoughts on this and how American Adoptions defines each type of adoption?

Megan, We have a 5 year old son who is asking lots of questions about our plans to adopt a new baby. What should we tell him?

Megan, we would like the baby to be circumcised if it’s a boy. Who decides at the hospital to have this done? What if the BM does not want this? I guess we are curious about all medical decisions for the baby in the hospital-how does that work?

Megan, we are very interested in adopting an infant and are currently exploring all of our options. We are finding the costs involved in adoption to be higher than we can possibly afford at this time. Are there any programs out there to help families like us? What suggestions might you have to help us? We have wanted a family for so long and feel like we keep hitting roadblocks along the way. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Hey Megan, quick question. You recently told us that we could be contacted about situations outside our APQ when a birth mother has already selected us or when you may want to show our profile and get our approval to do so. Our question is: Can we decline a match for these situations if we are not comfortable with the information? We want to make sure we understand and don't do anything wrong or anything that would be looked upon unfavorably. Thanks for talking with us the other day. We are so excited to be active!

Megan, did you watch Dateline? How scary it is that there are people out there who will prey on our feelings like that. Does American Adoptions ever have this happen? We feel very protected working with you, but just wanted to get your thoughts.

Megan, can we ever make changes to our Adoptive Family Profile during the wait period?  Am I able to do this and is there a cost to do this?

Megan, we have two questions that we hope you can help with One, what will we need to bring with us to the hospital? I am sure that we will need some basic baby items but will we need anything else? Also, what type of documents will we get for the baby such as birth certificate etc. because I imagine we will need something for our insurance, to travel with the baby etc. We know we are thinking ahead, but we just like to be prepared in case something comes up quickly.

Megan, we received an email the other day from a Birth Parent Specialist at your office letting us know about a potential situation. She gave us a few details and then asked if we wanted our profile shown. We were excited to receive this inquiry and know that it does not mean that we will be selected. Is this something that happens often? How often should we be checking our email? We check it daily, but want to ensure that we never miss out on an opportunity so let us know how often this happens and if we need to check it more than once a day. Have a great weekend. Thanks for your help!
