Do Adopted Children Ever Want To Meet Their Birth Parents?
Do adopted children ever want to meet their birth parents?
For adopted children, the decision about whether or not they wish to meet their birth parents is a personal one.
The answer is as unique as each individual person. While some adoptees have no desire to meet or know their birth parents, others want nothing more than to meet them. Some adoptees teeter back and forth in their decision, not quite sure as to what they want. There is no clear answer, it is simply something personal each adoptee must decide for themselves.
Some adoptees simply want to know what their birth parents look like -- wondering if their birth mom also has curly hair, or if they share that same dimple in the cheek. Although they may not necessarily want to meet their birth parents, many adoptees do still want to know what their biological parents look like. However, becuase most adoptions today involve the exchange of pictures and letters between the birth parents and the adoptive family, adopted children today don't grow up with this question, instead they are given the gift of knowing exactly what their birth parents look like -- and whether or not they share that same dimple.
Each adoption story is unique and special -- just as each adopted child is unique and special. While some adopted children do choose to pursue a relationship with their biological parents, others are comfortable simply knowing that they were adopted. While many think the answer should be a simple "yes" or "no," the reality is that sometimes it is not always black and white. The answer is different for each adoptee.
