American Adoptions Receives Hague Accreditation
American Adoptions is pleased to announce that our agency has recently been granted accreditation by the Council on Accreditation (COA) as part of the Hague Convention on
Intercountry Adoption.
The Hague Convention, which went into effect in the U.S. on April 1, is a set of internationally approved standards for countries involved in intercountry adoptions. The treaty is aimed at protecting children and families from unregulated and often unethical adoptions abroad and helps to ensure that intercountry adoptions are completed in an ethical, safe and legitimate manner and that the adoption is in the best interest of the child.
Currently, over 70 countries have implemented the Hague Convention. Any adoption agency or person wishing to facilitate an adoption between two convention countries must be accredited under the standards outlined in the Hague Convention. After a complete review by the U.S. Department of State, American Adoptions has been granted this important accreditation.
Although American Adoptions does not currently offer international adoptions, many adoptive families living abroad have sought our services to adopt a child from the U.S. With Hague accreditation, American Adoptions will be able to continue our strong commitment to building families - whether that family resides in the U.S. or overseas.
American Adoptions is currently waiting on Hague interpretations regarding the emigration of children from the U.S. to another country. If you currently reside outside of the U.S. and are interested in adopting with American Adoptions, please contact us at 1-800-ADOPTION for more information regarding this process.
