Adoption Stories

First we wanted to thank all the people at American Adoptions who helped us with our adoption process. They helped make our adoption process a very rewarding experience. Specifically we would like to thank Laurie Walker and Sarah Anderson. After having a successful adoption we thought it would be a good idea to share it with the waiting adoptive families so they could see that all their efforts and waiting will eventually result in a wonderful adopted baby.

Every day is so special and we think it's impossible to love her anymore, but the love still grows! Samantha enjoys being a big sister, and Kara just grins from ear to ear when Samantha walks into the room. We thank God and the birth mother who gave us the most amazing gift our family could ever receive--our sweet Kara!

It is easy to become discouraged if you wait longer than the average wait time. That is where we found ourselves in September of 2006. We were in the Traditional I Program and had been waiting for 18 months. At this time I promised myself that if our dream ever did come true that we would share our story to give hope to other couples that are not matched quickly!

We began our adoption journey just over one year ago, in December 2006. After trying and failing to become pregnant and being subject to numerous tests, our doctors finally advised against my becoming pregnant. We had discussed adoption numerous times before as something we might think of in the future. Well, the “future” came up extra fast! It took a couple months of discussion and research until we decided that this was absolutely what we wanted to do. We selected American Adoptions as the agency that we wanted to work with to make our dream of a family a reality.

Our story begins in September of 2006 when we found out we couldn't have any more biological children. So, immediately we decided on adoption. After searching what felt like the entire Internet...

Through the gift of adoption our family is now complete! Our daughter Aubrey is now six weeks old and we can't even remember, nor do we really want to, what life was like before she joined our family.

We cannot provide enough kind words to American Adoptions for connecting us with Staci and her family. American Adoptions was there for us every step of the way to answer our questions, calm our fears, provide guidance, and give us the encouragement we needed. We have been incredibly blessed with our little angel from God through American Adoptions and by the brave sacrifice of our birthmother, Staci. All of you will forever be in our hearts!

After several years of infertility we decided that we were tired of the emotional roller coaster ride and were ready to adopt. We signed up with American Adoptions and our journey began. At first, we took the approach that it will happen when it happens and that kept us going until June 2006 (15 months after we signed up). During that 15 months, we did get calls but for one reason or another, no match was made.

We are also among many adoptive parents who would not have thought open adoption would be right for us. But the increasingly open nature of our son's adoption is a part of our unique story that we wouldn't change for anything, and we hope that by sharing it, we might help other prospective adoptive parents shape a happy adoption story for their own families.
