Personal Adoption Story
Dakota, Eleanor, Aubrey and Hudson's Adoption Story

In the fall of 2008 we were talking about the idea of adding to our family. Because everything went so smoothly and quickly with our daughter we knew just who to turn to for help with baby #2. After our home study was complete we sent away for the "return family application" in mid January 2009. All the paperwork needed and phone calls with our adoption specialist went quickly and again American Adoptions showed us that we were indeed in good hands. Jokingly on one of the those calls, our adoption specialist said, "maybe #2 will come more quickly than Aubrey!", which we thought impossible considering we only waited seven days before "the call" about Aubrey came and she was born just ten days after that!
So we settled in and waited to be activated with the agency again, busy with life with an almost 2-year-old. We were still a few weeks out from being activated but daily I was checking the "Current Situations" page, just to see what was posted. I had inquired about a few situations before but for some reason or another, they just didn't fit. Then one night I was checking the site and saw a new situation had popped up about a little guy born the night before in Michigan. All the details of his situation seemed to fit and so I sent an email that night inquiring. I called my husband right away and told him I had a really good feeling about it. I was excited and nervous all night, waiting to hear back from the agency. Early the next morning the phone rang and I knew instantly who it was. It was American Adoptions saying that they had shown our profile to the birthmother and that she had chosen us to parent her son.and we needed to travel ASAP. We were SO excited and we rushed to make all the travel plans and to buy lots of blue, we didn't have anything since we were sure our wait would be much longer this time. All the while American Adoptions was quickly completing the last bits of our paperwork and walking us through everything., we never felt like we were doing this alone and that even though this was a super quick match, they had everything under control. The very next day the three of us were on a plane to pick up Hudson from the hospital in Michigan. Suddenly in the course of less than two days we were across the country and now a family of four! We had to stay in Michigan for two weeks while all the paperwork was being completed. We were able to meet a couple of times with Hudson's birthmother and her mother. As we were with Aubrey's birthmother and her family, we will always be grateful for the time we spent with them and will share those stories with Hudson as he grows older. At the end of September, Hudson's adoption became final (Septmeber 30th is Hudson Day in our family!) and just a few days ago we received his new birth certificate in the mail. It feels completely amazing to know that both our children are home, happy, healthy and ours forever.
I think the highest compliment we can give to American Adoptions is the fact that we returned and had equally amazing results as the first time. Our family is perfect, we have one girl and one boy and we couldn't be happier. I've even recommended American Adoptions to one of my co-workers and she and her husband were matched just a year later, their son is gorgeous! We are proof that American Adoptions is the best agency; they are professional, compassionate, thorough, and quick. We know, without a doubt, that choosing to work with them was one of the best decisions we ever made. Thank you American Adoptions for making our dreams of a family a reality!
