Penny most states have a specific amount of time that a parent is not present before you can file for abandonment charges to see if you can adopt the child, you I would think could at the very least get a lawyer to get you emergency legal guardianship due to the fact the mom is no where to be found so that you have the legal right to make medical decissions for this child. I am wondering what the law says about adopting a child who I have been custody of and who's mom has now not allowed us to know where she is... We have had this child with custody for now 6 months, his mom has left the state and we have heard NOTING for now 4 months.. I know that we would have to re-do the paperwork each year but without a knowing of where she is, how do I do that, and can we just adopt him?
