Catherine...I couldn't agree with you more! Even as an adoptive couple, we have the same reservations about the whole process, agency or lawyers. Unfortunately, it is a necessary part of the process to protect the child in the long run, so we are willing to work through it. Our goal is to do whatever is best for the child...not us (the adoptive family) or the birthparents. The one bond that all parties should share is the welfare of the child. If you do not like dealing directly with lawyers, try talking to a counselor at an agency. We are signed up with American Adoptions and feel that they have been very helpful and sympathetic throughout our side of the process. Hopefully you will have the same experience and feel comfortable working through them. Sincerely, David and Patty

Catherine, My name is Michelle and I am a birth mother who works for American Adoptions. If you do want to pursue adoption and do not want to deal with an attorney than we would be more than happy to assist you. If you were to work with our agency you would be working with a female adoption specialist who would help you through the process and she would be the one who would mainly have contact with the attorney in your area. Please let me know if you would like to know more information about our agency by contacting 1-800-Adoption (236-7846). Thank you

I understand that dealing with attorneys can be frustrating, but it is the very best thing for both you and the adoptive couple. As prospective adoptive parents we found an attorney who is sensitive to these situations. You are making a very hard, but loving decision. The legal side is there to protect you as well as the couple you choose. I wish you the very best. May God bless you and your child.
