Generally it is 12 weeks, but there are some exceptions. However, that does not mean you have to be paid during that time. You can research it via the dept. of labor at the following website: www.dol.gov/esa/whd/fmla/

Hi Amy. Congratulations on your recent adoption! I used to work in Human Resources and if I remember correctly, under the Family Medical Leave Act, you are allowed up to 12 weeks of leave whether your child is biological or adopted. I believe however, that it's up to your place of work on whether you will be payed during that time. That's how it is in our state. Talk with your Personnel or Human Resources office and they should know. Best wishes, Jenny

MY JOB IS GIVING ME A TIME ABOUT TAKING TIME OFF WORK AFTER THE BIRTH OF OUR BABY THAT WE HAVE ADOPTED. I NEED TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH TIME I AM ALLOWED?
