| m anderson | Posted: Sep 07, 2006 02:55:06 AM I'm so sorry for your trouble...I don't know where you are, but I do know you have the right to petition any court for anything on your own behalf, without a lawyer. The legal term is pro per. Most courthouses will have some kind of a family law clinic with paralegals to help you figure out what papers to file with the court, since there are no public defenders assigned in family law matters. Then you take them to the clerk's window and asked they be filed, request court fees waived, and show up to talk to the judge at your hearing. Good luck to you my dears...the courts can be scary places, but you have a right to be there. Blessed be.

| Tamesha Hodge | Posted: Jul 25, 2006 08:55:06 PM my sisters 4 children are in currently in foster care due to the father being very abusive TO HER. The father has since lost all rights to the children, but my sister has now been without her children for going on 3years. My other sister and I have made a plea to the court to get custody of all four children, however we live in different cities in Texas. I have inquired about getting a lawyer but they all want thousands of dollars to start the case, which we dont have, is there anyway to petition the courts to give the family custody of the children without paying outrageous lawyer fees. I feel that after paying for the lawyers I would'nt have the money I needed to support the kid and our family... Please somebody help before we lose the children,,, why is my sister being punished for the fathers mistakes, my sister is a very very good mother, you can tell by the kids manorism, they are very polite and respectful as she taught them to be. Now we are in a race against time as the foster parents are looking to adopt them also, however they can afford the lawyer fee, and it's not fair that we should lose the children just because they have more money then us... the children are mixed breed, spanish and black, very beautiful and I feel the state is holding her kids from us just because the foster parents want them. I am not rich, but I can support and raise the children. I just cant't afford the lawyer fees......help.PLEASE
