Most of the U.S. private agencies work with newborns -- some of the overseas programs have toddlers (or the children are toddlers by the time they are cleared for adoption). The other option is your state social services agency. These are children that have been placed in foster care and maybe become legally free for adoption. Also, most states have websites with photos of children that are legally free for adoption. Many of them are accessible through "Adopt U.S. Kids" -- do a search and you'll find it. From there you can search for the age/sex/etc. of the child that would fit into your family. Many of these have medical problems; many are African American; but, they all need a good home.
