HI. I AM ADOPTING A BABY FROM A FAMILY FROM ARIZONA. THE BIRTH MOM IS 75% NATIVE AMERICAN AND 25% SWEDISH. HER HUSBAND IS HALF GERMAN AND HALF SWEDISH. THEY ARE SO COMMITTED TO HAVING US ADOPT THEIR CHILD. THEY HAVE THREE NOW, CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER, AND WANT TO BLESS ANOTHER FAMILY WITH A CHILD. THE BIRTHMOM ONCE BELONGED TO A TRIBE AS A TEENAGER WHEN SHE NEED HELP. NOW MY LAWYER IS AFRAID THAT THE TRIBE MAY NOT ALLOW HER TO GIVE US THE CHILD. SHE SAID THAT IF THE CHILD IS LESS THAN 50% NATIVE AMERICAN THEY HAVE NO SAY. ALL OF THEIR CHILDREN ARE ONLY 35% NATIVE AMERICAN. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THIS ISSUE, I WOULD TRULY APPRECIATE SOME INSIGHT. THANK YOU.
