Hello, I have a 6 month old daughter. She was born almost 2 months premature b/c I developed a sudden/sivere case of pre-eclempsia and we both almost died. We survived, but not w/o TONS of complications (it was touch and go for a while w/ me...as even her birth still didn't stop the problems I had...I spent 2 months on bed rest after she was born). My dr told me that I have a 90% chance of having these same complications again w/ a 2nd pregnancy. My DH and I have been talking about adopting a child for quite some time. In fact, we talked about it before our daughter was even conceived (she was a surprise child). The birth of my daughter premature has left me w/ a longing to care for another preemie. My little 4 lb baby is now about 16 lbs, and is teething, trying to sit up, and "talking" up a storm. She has her own distinct personality, and I cried the other day when I opened her bag of preemie/NICU clothes. So, after much praying and thinking, we've decided that we want to adopt a preemie. So, my question is this. Is there any way to find out about preemies in the NICU's that are available/up for adoption? We have already played the NICU game. We're familiar w/ preemies' special needs and medical requirements. Ironically enough, we have 2 or 3 of EVERYTHING (we were given SO much for Heather: 2 cribs, 3 pack-n-plays, 2 swings, 2 highchairs, an exersaucer and a jump-a-roo, 2 car seats, 2 strollers and 1 umbrella stroller, the list goes on) plus we already have everything that a preemie needs as far as clothes/diapers/etc. I am still breastfeeding, so I can still provide nutritionally what is best for a preemie (breast milk to help w/ it's immature/weak immune system), and we just feel that the time is about right to try and bring another "miracle" child into our home. Can anyone help me w/ this? Thank you!
