What it Means to Be Parents and Our Strengths
Being a good mom and dad comes naturally for both of us and it's part of who we are. Just seeing the smiles, holding that small hand when they are unsure or afraid, getting those sticky kisses, hearing them say "I love you", or looking at them when they have just fallen asleep...is when we truly know that being a parent is the most rewarding and important thing we will ever do!
One of our favorite bible verses is “Train up a child in the way they should go and they will not depart from it” - Proverbs 22:6. This says how we feel. Your child will be raised in a Christian home and be taught of God's love for them. We realize it is a great responsibility for us to parent them to learn manners, respect, differences between right and wrong, caring, compassion, and love for others so they can become well rounded people.
We will be there to encourage and support them, spend quality time together and share new experiences. We will be involved with their interests and hobbies, school projects, knowing their friends and talking openly about anything they would want or need.
Already having a child lets us know, without a doubt, we want to again go through and do all the things a child brings into a home. Mom and Dad aren't big words, but to us have the BIGGEST meaning.. getting to be a part of a special persons life forever!
Our Son Spencer
Spencer has brought so much joy and excitement to our lives. When Spencer is playing tackle football with dad or making cookies with mom, he is always smiling and talking about something. He is able to find enjoyment in everything he does.
Spencer loves wintertime and asks daily if it's going to snow...then when it does, we are outside playing for hours. He was so proud of the little snowman he made.
He also likes playing Soccer. Every time he gets a goal, he looks at us (to make sure we saw him and to get a thumbs up from mom and dad) He is always full of energy, so this is a good sport for him.
Recently, we let Spencer pick out a kitten. He named her Spottie, because she is a calico cat. Spencer loves to sleep with her, hold her while watching TV and chase her around the house with both of them ending up under the dining room table. Since both of us had pets during childhood, we thought it was important that Spencer get to enjoy the same.
Spencer asks about a brother or sister often. He does not understand the reason we only have him, but is thrilled about us adopting because he knows this means a baby will be in our family. He already loves reading books and playing peek-a-boo with his 7 month old cousin, Owen. Spencer is very
loving, caring, and giving. We know he will be a wonderful big brother!
What We Like to Do for Fun
All Aboard The Polar Express Train!
We like the mountains or weekends at hotels to enjoy the pool and area attractions. Recently, we spent time near a railroad station to ride The Polar Express train. During the ride, Spencer wore his pajama's, we had cookies and hot chocolate, sang Christmas carols, and stopped by the "North Pole" to visit with Santa. Other memorable trips were having lunch with Mickey Mouse while at Disney World and getting soaked by Shamu at Sea World. We can't wait to go again and share these experiences with your child!
Mark is a huge football fan and never misses watching his favorite team, the Jets. Keitha-Lynn enjoys taking pictures and scrapbooking. We both like Southern Gospel Concerts, going out to dinner and a movie, taking walks, and going to watch Spencer at Soccer or Baseball games.
We have fun outside during wintertime. We bundle up and build snowmen, have snowball fights, sleigh ride, catch snowflakes on our tongues and come inside for hot chocolate. Fall brings leaves. We rake them up and Spencer jumps in. Covering him up is his favorite game. We collect leaves and acorns for artwork. Spring, with all the rain showers, brings mud puddles. We dress in raincoats and boots then jump in! Summertime is busy for us. We swim in the pool, take lots of trips to the playground, have a picnic beside the lake, feed the ducks, walk in the woods, make homemade ice cream and ride bikes. We look forward to our new addition join us in this fun through the year!!
When we can't get outside, we sometimes relax by wearing our pajama's all day! We read books or watch a Disney movie. Going bowling or the Chuck E Cheese Arcade are favorites too.
