We both grew up in close families, so doing things together is important to us. We enjoy exploring our city together, so we go to parks, coffee houses, museums, farmers' markets, festivals, restaurants, and special events all over town. We also like hanging out at home. We both enjoy cooking, so sometimes we will find a new recipe and cook it for a fun evening in. We play board games, ping pong, and card games together, and we enjoy cuddling on the couch while watching our favorite TV shows. When we're not spending time together, Adam really enjoys watching sports, both on TV and in person. Unfortunately, the local sports teams have had some bad years, but Adam tries to cheer them to victory anyway. He is looking forward to taking our kids to their first baseball games and playing catch with them in our yard. Adam also really enjoys reading. He always has a big pile of books he's checked out from the library. Becky really enjoys crafting. She is a knitter and has recently learned to sew. She has a lot of projects planned for the baby's nursery and looks forward to doing art projects with our kids. We both have a great network of friends and family that we enjoy spending time with. They are all excited to meet the new baby, and we are sure their kids will be good friends with ours.
Becky's favorite thing about Adam is how considerate he is. He often anticipates what she needs and is glad to help her with that. Often, Adam can see that Becky is cold and will bring her a sweater or mug of hot tea without Becky even saying that she needs anything. Becky respects that Adam is a hard worker. He is always taking care of errands and things that need to be done around the house as well as being good at his job. Becky also really enjoys that Adam likes to laugh. They have a lot of inside jokes and are always cracking each other up.
Adam's favorite thing about Becky is her gentleness and respect for other people. When dealing with difficult people or situations, she is very patient to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and the see the good in others. Adam appreciates Becky's relationship with her parents and sisters as well. Seeing them goofing around together and enjoying each other's company makes him excited to see similar dynamics between the kids that will grow up together in our family. Becky is also encouraging. She affirms Adam and always has a kind word for him or for other people in her life.
We both look forward to being a part of a multi-cultural family. We will be open with our children about their backgrounds and plan to celebrate our children's cultural heritage. Because we live in a bigger city, we have a lot of opportunities to participate in cultural events that will teach them about both their cultures and other cultures. Since we enjoy cooking, we plan to learn to cook foods from their heritage and to celebrate holidays that are part of their background. The city also affords us the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of people. We live near and work with people of different races and backgrounds, and there is a lot of diversity in our neighborhood schools. We're also part of an adoption group with a lot of multi-cultural families. This will be a great resource for us as we navigate challenges and will give our children an opportunity to be around kids in the same situation as they are. We know being a multicultural family will be a great joy but also realized it will be a challenge at times. We plan to have frank conversations about our differences while still appreciating our similarities. We hope to teach our children to celebrate what makes them unique and to work through the challenges with grace and strength.
