Our Family Traditions
Since we've adopted Garrett, it's like re-living our childhood, and making sure he will have one he can really remember. If you choose us, we are looking forward to sharing our family traditions with your child. Family is very important to us! We'd like to tell you about a few of our many family traditions. On Christmas, one of our family traditions is decorating the Christmas tree together, including putting a manger scene under the tree in front to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. Visiting Santa and telling him what you'd like under the tree. Building a
snowman or making snow angles. We like to drive around to see Christmas lights at night. Christmas Eve night we have fun setting out cookies for Santa. Our church has a Christmas play/musical at church we enjoy, and we also like eating big Christmas dinners with our extended family. We also go to a few Christmas get-togethers with friends. On Christmas
morning just simply enjoying each other’s company, and seeing what Santa brought us under the Christmas tree and what he filled our stockings with, (our son still believes in Santa). On Thanksgiving, we enjoy having big Thanksgiving dinners with extended family. Being thankful for what God gives us during Thanksgiving time and through the rest of the year. In the holiday winter months, we alternate Christmas and Thanksgiving between Matt's extended family that live closer, and visiting Becky's extended family, which live further. At Easter time, Easter egg hunting is fun stuff! Easter morning we hunt around the house for Easter eggs. Then our church has an Easter egg hunt after morning service. After church on Easter, we go to Grandma's house for a wonderful Easter dinner and egg hunt afterwards outside. On Halloween, we go to the pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin. We're looking forward to taking Garrett and a baby dressed up for fun and go trick-or-treating. Other traditions are hunting family traditions; deer riffle season and turkey riffle season. Our family beef and cattle farm/ranch is a big part of our country life and family tradition. We also love gardening. Each spring we plant a garden of lettuce, spinach and radish when it's still cool. Then as it warms up, we plant the rest of our garden; tomatoes, green beans, corn, (sometimes), and peppers. If we plant a fall garden, we plant turnips. During anytime of the year,
winter or summer, Becky can always find a pool to swim in, which is another family tradition. Our little boy, Garrett is in soccer for the team spirit and for fun times in our community. We’d say that is our latest family tradition.
What it Means to Be Parents and Our Strengths
Celebrating Father’s Day
This means to us: always giving our unconditional love is the way to love and care for a child. Always being there when your child needs you, and giving them tools to survive life's ups and downs is big part of being good parents. Giving our tender loving care no matter what age they are and showing that we really care and give them all the time they need with us. When they are little and when they are big, giving of ourselves; when they need a hand, learning how to ride a bike, a listening ear, or a playmate to color with. Being patient every step of the way. Providing them with tools in life to be the best they can be. To be a good parent means to be loving and supportive when they are trying something new. On finger painting or crafts, even when it’s hard to tell what it is, praising them for doing a good job. Teaching them good manners and teaching them how to care for others. Before Garrett could even talk, we'd ask him, "How are you, how was your day?" Ever since he could talk, he'd ask, "How was your day?" Being a good parent also means providing them with self confidence in themselves to be able to accomplish their dreams in life. Taking time to read to them everyday, building blocks or legos, playing house, teaching how fun it is to bake chocolate chip cookies. When they get older, encourage them to prepare to attend college and providing the finances for them to do so. Being persistent with positive reinforcement all through the years and setting reasonable guidelines for them to follow. Beginning with pre-school, setting everyday goals, to help them focus on good habits. Always keeping open communication with them throughout their lives. Teaching
children how to have good clean fun in life, and saying, "I love you", everyday.
