What we do in our Leisure Time
Nascar Race

In our free time, we try to do a lot of things together. We enjoy making improvements to our home, doing repairs on our cars, cooking, watching and going to NASCAR races, spending time with family and friends, or just hanging out and watching our favorite TV shows. We also volunteer a couple of times a year with programs such as the Connecticut Child ID Program.

At the Bronx Zoo

We make time to pursue our separate interests as well. Abigail enjoys knitting, reading, pottery and baking -- her specialty is chocolate chip cookies. She also runs a book club, which meets monthly. Mark enjoys tinkering with electronics and our home theater, and is also a teacher's assistant for cooking classes at the community center.

We are really looking forward to sharing our hobbies and activities with a child, as well as exploring new interests as a family. We can't wait to see our world through a child's eyes!

What it Means to be Parents
Our Nephews Won the Hard Hats for Us!

Over our 10 years of marriage, we have spent a lot of time contemplating what it would be like to be parents and have a family. It will be an honor and a privilege to watch a child learn, grow, change and develop into a caring and thoughtful person. We know that parenting is not an easy job, but an extremely important one. We will raise a child with lots of love and respect, and provide a loving home where a child is safe and free to play, learn and try lots of things on the journey to adulthood.

Our time with Mark's family has reinforced our desire to be parents ourselves. Mark's nieces and nephews have provided us with a lot of parenting experience, though without the joys of changing diapers! One thing we have learned is to answer children's questions. We believe that children deserve better than, "Because I said so," and we will strive to be open and honest at all times.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
The Day We Brought Wallace Home

Mark: I love the way Abigail sees the world with a clean, fresh perspective. She is not quick to judge a book by its cover. She is patient, understanding and willing to try new things. She is cautious but not afraid, smart but not pompous, loving and caring. I admire her ability to hold her own when she needs to, but is completely trusting when she wants to be. I respect her for everything she is and everything she does. Her smile will light up a room and her laugh is intoxicating. She has the ability to make a home friendly and inviting without being overbearing. She already shows the qualities of a great mother and I can't wait to see those qualities in action.

Mark Being a Big Kid at His Birthday Party

Abigail: I love the way Mark can always make me smile and laugh. His sense of humor is a great gift to me. He is kind, loving and caring, and has an amazing ability to make everyone around him comfortable and welcome. He is extremely intelligent, but never makes people feel stupid when they ask him a question. He loves to teach people what he knows. I admire how he has built a business that he loves and which supports our household. He is going to be a great dad. He is both patient and silly with children; he instinctively knows how to communicate with kids at their level. He is also unembarrassable, which will come in handy with kids!
