We have been married for over nine years and we dated for four years prior to our marriage. We have known from the start that we wanted a family. We believe that parenting a child will be one of the greatest experiences of our lives and we are excited about the opportunity. We feel our infertility has strengthened our relationship and we are closer than ever as we begin our adoption journey. We currently have twenty nieces and nephews and love spending time with them. Caring for them at various times has given us a great taste of both the pleasures and challenges of parenting. With the lessons learned from not only our nieces and nephews, but also their parents, we feel we are armed with knowledge from these family experiences, and we are ready to put our parenting knowledge to work!
We are both active people and like to keep busy. During the spring, we are often seen outside re-acquainting ourselves with the neighbors after hibernating all winter. We'll put down grass seed, go for long walks with our dog, Smokey, and generally enjoy anything and everything outside.
We host an annual 4th of July party. We spend weeks preparing for the event and really enjoy having our family, friends, and neighbors over for a fun time. We have an inflatable water slide, lots of games and relay races, great food, and every red, white, and blue thing imaginable.
The fall season brings fresh vegetables from our garden. We spend lots of time from June through October working on our garden. Working in our yard/garden not only keeps us busy, but also keeps us in touch with our neighbors.
We participate in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund walk each fall to raise money for cancer research. We have done this walk together for 13 years and although we are tired and sore at the end of the 26.2 mile walk, we know it is nothing compared to what cancer patients go through.
Christmas is the highlight of our winter. We enjoy decorating our house and having family over for food, fun, and lots of games. Bill has even dressed up as Santa on a few occasions!
A child would be a welcomed gift to our lives and would put a new spin on our leisure time.
Although we both work hard and strive for perfection in our individual professions, our priority is spending time with each other and with our families. We realize that we are truly lucky to have such a close-knit family and we enjoy spending time with them more than anything. When thinking of fond memories, it always involves something we did together or with our families.
When we got married, we decided that instead of giving traditional gifts to our nieces and nephews for Christmas, we would give them the gift of an outing instead. This day trip isn’t always during the holiday season and, therefore, it gives the kids time to look forward to the day. We’ve had outings such as swimming and sliding at Water Country in New Hampshire, skiing, horseback riding, going to the theatre, and our latest adventure was indoor skydiving, which was quite an experience! We are already excited about including a new child into our planning for the next outing.
