Our Lifestyle
Spending the Day at Home

In these few words we want to inform you of our amish lifestyle. First of all, we will try to explain why we use a horse and buggy as our main source of transportation. We feel it slows down the fast pace of life. In our case if we would both have a car Mark would probably spend a lot of time golfing while Sharon would go shopping, thus hurting our family time. However we do not feel it is wrong to use or own a car, Mark drives with a truck everyday for work and we also hire drivers when going on vacation or anywhere too far to use a horse and buggy Mark owned a car during our dating years, but we decided we wanted a slower pace of life so he sold his car and we joined the amish church. Next, we will try to explain why we don't have TVs and computers. We feel it displays a lot of material not suitable for children. We do have cell phones. Our lights and utilities are powered by natural gas. We also use some solar power.

Our free time as a family is often spent singing, reading or playing a card or board game. On beautiful summer and fall evenings we spend alot of time around the campfire in our backyard roasting hot dogs and marshmellows while chatting about the days events. We also enjoy getting together with family and friends for dinner and games. Gradie loves to get together with his cousins to play.

Some of the TV shows about the amish have been very misleading as to who we are and what we believe. Hopefully, this will answer some of your questions about the amish lifestyle. And if you have any other questions we will be happy to answer them.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

In the winter months we like to escape the cold temperatures and head for the warm, sunny beaches of Florida. We like to stay at a beach front condo where we can watch the rolling waves and beautiful sunsets from our sun porch. Sharon likes to go out to the beach to sunbathe while Mark likes to play a game of golf. We are currently planning a two week vacation to Siesta Key with Sharon's sister and her family. We are getting very excited to take Gradie to the pool for a swim and out to the beach to build sand castles. And we are looking forward to a day when Gradie can take a little brother or sister along!

Our Family Traditions

We both come from families who value traditions. During every Christmas season Mark's family goes visiting the sick and elderly in hopes of bringing them Christmas cheer. They also get together every Christmas for gifts, food, and fun. His Mom always has a stack of gifts for the grandchildren. Another fun time of year is when his Dad's family gets together for their annual pig roast and volleyball games. On Sharon's side we get together with friends and go Christmas caroling. And on Christmas Eve the  whole family gets together for an overnight stay, which includes the gift exchange and lots of food and fun. Every Christmas Eve Mark helps the kids with a skit, this year he was a substitude teacher who could'nt discipline his students. Another fun time of year is when we get together with Sharon's family and their friends for the annual camping trip. Since Gradie came into our lives we no longer have to go to these get togethers with the feeling that something is missing. And we look forward to shareing  these traditions with another little boy or girl!!!
