Monica is passionate about her job as a teacher for children who are blind. She loves working with children and teens who are blind because she feels that it a calling for her. These children are near and dear to her heart and she wants to prepare them to be as successful and independent as possible when they leave school. She has taught all subjects from braille to training children how to travel independently with a cane. Now she is teaching art, and she absolutely loves it. She also feels passionate about making the community aware that even people who are blind can be talented artists.
We both also enjoy our leisure time. We love hanging around our home and playing with our dogs or watching a movie. Monica enjoys painting in her art studio that she has set up in our sunroom. When the weather is warm, we both ride our bikes together on the greenway, we go swimming in our neighbor's pool or at the fitness center, and we play endless games of badminton with our neighbors. In the summer, we go on vacation either up to New England or Monica's favorite place; the beaches in Florida.
Once a month, we visit Monica's parents, either for a weekend or we meet them for lunch half way between our homes. At Christmas, our family gets together in the mountains and shares a chalet for the weekend. On Sundays, we go to church and perhaps catch an afternoon matinee at the movies. We also, spend time with Mike's family and play with our nieces and nephew.
We will both be very open with our child about his or her adoption. Monica was adopted and her parents told her as she was growing up that she was adopted and that she was very special because she was chosen. Naturally she asked questions about her adoption and she felt that her parents answered them as honestly as they could. Adoption has changed a lot since Monica was adopted, but she knows that that is an important key to knowing who she is and where she came from. It also made her tell her friends with pride that she was adopted and chosen. We plan to be the same way but since adoptions tend to be more open these days, we will be able to provide our child with more information. We plan to talk openly about the adoption and make him or her aware that their birth mother is a very special person and that the choice she made was out of love. We admire you and if we are chosen, we will always feel grateful to you and we can promise to always remind him or her of how wonderful a person you are. Monica also wants to put together an adoption book for the child so that he or she can see their journey and how she/ he came into our lives.
We are both big animal lovers. We have had pets in our homes while growing up, so sharing a home with four legged creatures only seems natural. We have two small dogs (Boston Terrier named Piper and an old Pug named Jack). They are our babies. We also have one cat and two parrots (Blue Crown Conures) and yes, the birds do talk! Our pets live in our home and they think they are the bosses. The birds stay in the sunroom. Piper is very spoiled. She wears sweaters and goes to the groomer (we call it the doggie spa). Piper and the cat are best friends and love to play with each other. We both walk the dogs together and enjoy playing frisbee with them in the backyard. As you can see, our pets are very dear to us.
