Our favorite vacation spot is the Frio River, located just down the road in the Texas hill country. Our summers can be brutal, but there is a little spot in west Texas that is inviting, and totally relaxing in a family friendly environment. The Frio River is a spring fed river that is always cool, no matter how hot it is outside. It flows through the beautiful hill country so the scenery there is awesome, as well as the trip down the winding, hilly roads to get there. You never know what kind of wildlife you might see as there are plenty of exotic ranches in the area. What really makes this our favorite vacation spot is that we never go alone. We rent a house in the area and a group of family members and friends usually join us for several days. While we are there we enjoy cooking out on the grill, playing games, taking walks, cruising down to the nearby state park, tubing down the river, or just hanging out and relaxing. It is a great place to get away, forget about work, kick back, relax and enjoy nature.
We have several traditions in our families. Family is, has been, and always will be a big part of our lives. We both come from very traditional family backgrounds. All of our grandparents have been married for at least 60 years, and our parents have been married for 30+ years, so our traditions have been around for a while, with the crowds growing each year. First of all we have our custom family reunions. It is always fun to see your family and catch up on what they have been doing, listen to stories about "the good ol' days", meet the new additions, plan for future get togethers, and of course get plenty of hugs and kisses! Our favorite tradition has to be Christmas with our families. Christmas is just a wonderful time of year to begin with. A group of at least 20 members get together for Kelly's family gatherings while Ronald's huge family has anywhere from 40 and 50 people there to celebrate. There is the infamous pair of lime green pants that gets passed around each year to the men in Ronald's family at Christmas. The down side is that whoever gets them has to wear them, whether they fit or not! Needless to say, our Christmas gatherings are always exciting and loud, with plenty of family, games, food, gifts, laughs, love and celebration of the birth of Christ! We wouldn't have it any other way!
Being parents to us means that you make a life-long commitment to serve as a nurturer to your child. The foundation of this commitment is based on unconditional love; no matter what happens, no matter what the future holds, that love will always be there. As a parent you are also committed to provide a safe home, nourishment, and a supportive environment for your child to grow. We also believe that as parents your job is to guide your child through life and not make all their decisions for them, but give them all of the options and help them learn to make choices on their own, when times are appropriate. The "firsts" are the things that we believe we will enjoy the most about being parents. The first steps, first words, first laugh, first cry, first day of school, first love, first heartache, and the many other "firsts" that happen throughout life. We want our child to know that we will always be the first people that he or she can turn to for love, support, and comfort at anytime from the "firsts" to the "last."
