In our leisure time, we love to travel! Learning about another culture together is an incredible experience. Marc is a high school history teacher and recently began organizing group tours to give his students a chance to travel while still in school. We got the "travel bug" when we were in college and we went to see the Mayan ruins in Mexico. We took a group of 15 students on a tour of France and Italy. It was amazing! We met new people and got to see incredible things. When you travel, you get the chance to make so many memories that last a lifetime. We are so excited to share this with our child.
Families are made in many different ways and we always knew that ours would be made complete through adoption. Marc's cousin Jeffery, was adopted and has been like a brother to Marc. Marc's aunt and uncle adopted Jeffery at a young age and his adoption has been celebrated every day since. Having personal experience with adoption has really led us to believe in the journey. We understand the selfless decision that is made by the birthmother. This journey has brought us closer together as a family. Sitting together to complete our profile brought back so many memories. Old pictures and the funny stories that accompany them really allowed us to take a look back at what has been important in our lives. There is a common theme that keeps coming up-family. We know the decision that Jeffery's birthmother made was a difficult one and we are just so grateful every day that she had the courage to make that choice. She gave Marc's aunt and uncle a son, and she gave Marc a "brother."
We will always be honest with our child about our adoption journey. We have already stared a collection of children's books about adoption to read to our child. We will explain that adoption is just another way that God makes families. We hope to celebrate a "match day" for our child. Not only will their actual birthday be celebrated, but the day we were all matched as a family will be as well. We know that there will be a day when our child is old enough to ask about their adoption in detail. We will answer each and every question they may have with information, love and honesty. Adoption is a blessing that should be celebrated. Our journey as a family began with adoption and it will be strengthened by openness and honesty.
