What it Means to Be Parents and Our Strengths

We believe to become a well-rounded person begins at home. We have many strengths and these will guide us in becoming good parents. Diana has been a teacher for many years, and has been a role model for many children. She also baby-sat for many children while growing up. She tries to instill good values and work habits in her present students to become productive citizens in today's society.

Gerard grew up surrounded by many cousins. Being the oldest of all of his first cousins, he set an example for them to follow. He always took care of the younger ones, and enjoyed watching his niece when he was older, also. They always got along with each other, spent much time on vacations, and family outings. They continue to be close today.

Our Cultural Heritage

We come from Italian backgrounds. Gerard was born in Italy and came to this country when he was four years of age. His grandparents, mother, father, aunts and uncles were all born in Italy. The family traditions from the "old country" were carried on in America. Some examples are: homemade pizzas, pastas, and sausages.

Diana's dad and grandparents were born in Italy, and she has visited this country three times. She always enjoyed spending time with her aunts, uncles, cousins, and speaking the Italian language. Speaking Italian at home helped her to grasp the Spanish language easily, which she teaches today. Your child will have an advantage of knowing two languages. In today's world, this is very helpful for the future of a child in order to become successful in a career.

Our Family Traditions

At a New Year’s Eve Party

We come from very rich family traditions. Diana's family always ate pigs in the blanket on New Year's Eve, went down the shore every summer, and later went on cruises. Her family always attends Sunday Mass and celebrates birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries together. Gerard's family always spent Christmas Eve with grandparents and attended Midnight Mass. All of his aunts and grandparents made traditional goodies with recipes brought from Italy. The eating of twelve different fish dishes were and still is a tradition of both families.

We are anxiously waiting to continue to carry on these traditions and begin new ones with your child. We also plan on going on wonderful family vacations, having Easter egg hunts, and decorating the Christmas tree together.
