Our Lifestyle
John Mountain Biking in North Carolina

We are both healthy active people. We prefer anything that has to do with the outdoors. Our free time generally involves a bicycle. We like to get on our mountain bikes whenever possible. And if the Kansas wind is quiet we like to get on our road bikes. This child may be pedalling before he or she is walking! John also likes to run with our 2 labradors, Duchess and Kona. Carrie enjoys being in the garden tending to whatever she can get to grow. We like to throw the frisbee at the park, swim in the pool, and hit some balls at the golf course. We generally cook dinner together and invite some family or friends over as well. When the snow starts falling we still like to get out and enjoy nature. But if we can't ,we can both pick up a good book and sit in our bay window and enjoy the sunlight. This little one will have days filled with activity and we are excited to know what they will enjoy! If it is learning to ride a bike or learning how to swim, we will be doing it as a family.

What Led Us to Choose Adoption
Going Out On a Winter's Walk

Bringing a little one home to be part of our family will be the greatest moment of our lives! After trying to have children of our own and learning very quickly that was not an option, adoption was a very easy decision. We went to doctors and it was determined that Carrie could not get pregnant. But even if we cannot have children of our own, for sure, does not mean we cannot be parents! We still have hopes and dreams and wants for a child. We want to see them crawl, walk, talk, play baseball, play in the school band, and pick a career. John is ready to teach this child how to drive a stick shift and Carrie wants to know which bedtime book they will like the best. We have never lingered on the fact that "we cannot have kids." We know adoption is the choice for us. We are ready to become a bigger family. We are ready for that great moment!

Our Pets
Duchess, John, Kona and Carrie

We both had pets as children---horses, dogs, cats, hamsters. Carrie was in rodeos as a girl so she spent a lot of time around big animals. John had dogs as a boy. And we have had dogs since we met. Duchess, our 11 year old labrador retriever, was a birthday gift from Carrie to John our first year of dating. And Kona, another labrador, is also part of our "pack." Since we felt like we could offer ourselves to more animals we started being foster parents to labrador retrievers. For the past 4 years we have worked with a group that rescues and rehomes dogs. We generally get the more special needs cases---maybe ones that need medical care or just some time to relax and be a dog. These animals bring differing personalities into our home. They make us adapt quickly. For instance, we had to adapt a diet for a dog with food allergies and we had to develop a progressive exercise plan for an overweight 115 pound guy that had a thyroid problem. All of our dogs got adopted to great forever homes. We still communicate with their owners and get updates. This experience has been nothing but rewarding. Even though the dogs can't say "Thank you" we know we did something great for each of them.
