How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally
Playing with Our Nephew - We Can't Wait to Be Parents!

Adoption has affected us personally in many ways and is already a very special part of our family. Erin's father and his sister were both adopted by Erin's Grandmother. Because of their experiences we feel more prepared to adopt. We feel that being open and honest about the child's beginnings will help with their development through life, and we will save letters and pictures from the birth parents to show to the child. We both feel that the child should know that he or she is loved by both the birth parents and the adoptive parents. Providing a positive beginning that includes information about the birth parents is very important to us. Erin plans on making a memory book or scrapbook to show how we all ended up being together as a family. Erin has also already started a book list for the child that includes books about adoption. It includes "Tell Me Again About the Night I was Born" by Jamie Lee Curtis and "We Belong Together" by Todd Parr. Also each child has their own story and we want to make sure the child knows that one too, and it includes the birth parents.

Our Pets
Joe and Lacey

Pets have always been important in our lives. We both grew up with pets present in the household. Erin's parents always had cats and Joe's always had dogs. So naturally when we got married we wanted to have pets. Erin already had a cat named Rocco from college, then soon after we got married we got our Corgi, named Pixie. Then we got Luna our other cat from a friend of ours who moved away and couldn't take her along. Then finally to round it all out, we got our second Corgi, Lacey. Erin learned what it was like to have the love and loyalty of a dog. Joe gets to experience the independent yet loving cats can be. They add so much to our lives and are a part of our family.

Type of Education We Will Provide
Erin at the Zoo

We will provide the best possible education for the child. We are starting out with Montessori school before the child enters public schools. Montessori schools believe in providing the child more individualized learning experiences. They provide an environment that is supportive to the child intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally so the child will feel comfortable in a learning environment. After Montessori school we will have the child attend public school. We feel that the public school system is a good base for education and socialization. From that point we can determine the child's interests and go from there. For example if the child enjoys math and science, we will structure learning at home around that, with books, trips to the aquarium, and simple things like catching fireflies in the back yard. If the child is good at reading, we will get a library card and encourage journal writing. Hopefully from that base the child can determine where they would want to go in the future, whether it would be military, college, or a technical school.
