We are outdoor enthusiasts -- anything we can do outside, we enjoy. Even our black retriever, Raven, loves the outdoors. We have a very large back yard, so cutting grass, trimming, and weeding are some of the things we do in the spring and summer. We get rewarded for our work by relaxing in our pool. We are very involved in our daughter Katherine's school. Kate helps coach cross country in the fall and Carl helps coach track and field (specifically the shot put) each spring.Katherine also has taken up volleyball, basketball, and softball so we attend all of her games and try and practice/play in the yard as much as possible. Kate has also assisted coaching basketball which helps make the winter more active! We love to vacation. We've travelled to many states and have seen the beauties of the US from Yosemite to Hawaii. We've enjoyed cities across the country from New York to San Francisco. We love beaches, but Katherine's favorite place has been Alaska.
Being a parent means being a role model, a teacher, a confidant and someone who loves you no matter what happens. Parenting is an amazing job -- despite adoring your child, you have to make sure you guide them and show them what is right and wrong. Parents are being watched constantly, and our actions mean as much as our words. Our child's joys become our joys a thousand times over. Our child's sadness becomes a pain deep within that hurts like nothing else. What we love most about being parents is sharing in the activities of our child's life -- from the morning hug to the dinner conversations, before bed reading, and finally watching our child sleep peacefully. The other great part about parenting is watching as the child grows more into an individual who speaks their own mind and does things that constantly surprise you.
Carl is second generation Italian. He grew up in a home with his grandparents who spoke only Italian, and his mother was the interpreter. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins lived nearby and everyone came by on weekends for large Sunday dinners that his grandmother cooked. Family, love, and food were a regular part of Carl’s upbringing. Kate is mostly Czechoslovakian and a little Irish. She grew up with 5 brothers and sisters and were always visited by aunts and uncles. She also had big Sunday meals with many generations of family at the same table. Both of our families grew up with special traditional meals that we had at Christmas and Easter. Neither Kate nor Carl’s families had money growing up, but they knew that their happiness was due to family and love in their homes.
