While we may both be engineers, we don't consider ourselves the "typical" engineers. We are the type of couple that stays very active. Of all our hobbies, traveling is our favorite. We both love to experience new places, food and cultures. Whether we are on a road trip or flying overseas, it's what we love to do. Renee grew up with very fond memories of family road trips across the country and Dennis has fond memories of trips to the beach.
One of the activities that brought us together as a couple was our love of riding roller coasters and going to theme parks. Shortly after we got married we decided to take a roller coaster road trip. We visited five parks in seven days and rode more than 40 coasters!
When we are home, things are quieter. Dennis enjoys watching sports, reading and playing video games. Renee keeps busy with her cake decorating, reading and running. Cake decorating for Renee is a great creative outlet and Dennis enjoys the extra cake and icing we end up with.
Staying active is important to us. On the weekends we may go for a hike, enjoy eating out, seeing a movie, or going to a hockey game. On Sunday night we started a tradition where we cook together. We either try a new recipe or bring back an old favorite. For us, the chance to show the world to a child and experience new activities with them is very exciting and something we look forward to.
We both grew up in families that cared a lot about our educations. Renee remembers how her parents helped her with her homework and science fair projects. One science fair project her dad taught her how to write her first software game, hangman. Dennis remembers how his parents bought educational material, like encyclopedias and science magazines to help him with his studies. After graduating from high school, we both went to college and earned degrees in Computer Science.
Along with our education, our families believed it was important to participate in extracurricular activities. Dennis played the trombone in the high school band and played soccer and baseball when he was young. Dennis also participated in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of life scout. Renee took dance for several years. Renee also took voice lessons and participated of musical theatre in high school.
We want to provide a good education; we live in a great school system. Besides the school system we will be the type of parents who will be active in a child's education and work with their children. Dennis can imagine reading bedtime stories at night. We feel it's very important for a child to have a wide range of experiences and be able to pursue what is important for them. We will do our best to provide a nurturing environment that encourages a child to explore and be creative.
We have two fun cats named Petie and Penny who are brother and sister. Renee adopted both cats when she was back in college. Luckily when Renee met Dennis, Petie and Penny liked him too. Petie and Penny may be our pets, but they are truly part of the family. The house would not be the same without our two furry critters.
Growing up in Renee's family had lots of animals, you could almost say that she lived on a small farm. Renee's family raised dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and even had a horse. Dennis grew up mostly with guinea pigs and cats. His grandfather had a farm and Dennis would visit with the calves on the farm. While having pets growing up was fun it was also a learning experience as pets needed to have cages cleaned and given food, water and attention.
