Our Lifestyle
In Our Backyard with Our Dog, Jaxom

Our lives are centered around our family and our home. Rusty works full-time as a pediatrician and Liz works part-time as a veterinarian. During the week we cook dinner together and spend our evenings reading, watching movies or playing with our pets.

We discovered early in our marriage that we love to work on home improvement projects. Together we have remodeled the kitchens, bathrooms, and basements of the homes we have lived in. We also enjoy planning and implementing landscaping projects, which are challenging and interesting given the unique geology of our current yard.

Weekends for us always involve food. We like to try new restaurants whenever possible and experiment cooking new recipes together. When we're not working on our home or eating, we are either spending time visiting our family and friends or taking day trips around New England. We love going to museums and to the local zoos, as well as outdoor activities like hiking, walking the dogs, bicycling, and kayaking. Recently we've also started trying winter sports like cross-country skiing. On summer evenings, we can often be found relaxing on our back patio and admiring the stars next to a fire in the firepit.

We are excited to share these and many future experiences with a child as a family!

Our Pets
With Pip, Pigeon, Jaxom and Callie

Since Liz is a veterinarian, our pets are an integral part of our life. Our four-legged family members include two dogs and three cats. The older dog is Callie, a collie mix that we adopted from the shelter when she was three years old. She is a beautiful girl whose sweet temperament allowed her to become a certified therapy dog. Our younger dog is Jaxom, a border collie mix who was adopted from the same shelter when he was just a puppy. He loves to learn, is always up for a new adventure and has the title of being a Canine Good Citizen. Both of our dogs have had extensive training and have proven to be calm and well-behaved with children of all ages.

The cats, being more independent and mysterious than dogs by nature, adopted us. Pip is a brown tabby who found Liz when she was working at the local humane society. He had a broken leg at that time and had been discovered by staff members playing in a birdbath outside the front door. Pigeon, a black and white longhaired cat, found Rusty while he was still in medical school. He was unfortunately being used for a medical training laboratory and was supposed to be euthanized at the lab's completion. The third cat is Sophie, an opinionated little calico. She found Liz at her clinic when she came in with a life-threatening infection requiring immediate surgery which her owners could not afford.

Qualities We Admire in Each Other
In Beautiful Germany

Rusty About Liz: Liz is smart, determined, energetic, patient, practical, and one of the most compassionate and caring people I have ever met. There is no one thing I love most about Liz because I love so many things about her including her eyes, sense of humor, and devotion to those she loves. She is an incredibly loyal friend and confidant, and she steadfastly helps those she loves without asking for thanks or recognition. She helps keep me from being too impulsive, and can make a huge task seem easier by just taking it step by step. She is by far my most favorite woman in the world and I feel like I am a better man for having her in my life.

Liz About Rusty: The things I love most about my husband are his sense of humor, adventurous spirit and playful nature. I am more introverted and careful but Rusty helps pull me out of my shell and experience more that life has to offer. With Rusty around things always seem brighter, there's more laughter, and everything seems possible. I admire his compassion towards others and his dedication to family and friends. He is one of the most selfless people I know and goes above and beyond to help those in need. He loves spending time with our nieces and nephews and I'm always in awe of how well they and other children respond to him. I feel truly blessed to have a husband that I respect, love and trust with my whole heart and know that he will make a wonderful father.
