Lisa is an avid reader and reads everything from cooking magazines to novels she can barely hold. Being a first grade teacher, she reads children's books almost every day and can't wait until bedtime stories become a nightly routine. Lisa is in a book club and a cooking club, both of which she enjoys greatly. Lisa loves to cook and tries to make everything from scratch or with ingredients that she has grown in her garden. She likes to share her food with others.
Ed is a D.I.Y. master! He spends time painting, building, and fixing things around the house. Currently he is remodeling the basement so that we can have a large playroom. Ed likes to play golf and his game improves each year. During quiet times Ed enjoys doing crossword puzzles and reading sports magazines. During the winter he keeps busy clearing the snow not only from our house but from that of neighbors needing help and our grandpa's house.
We love to spend time together. Simple trips to the grocery stores are fun for us. Together we like to host dinner parties for family and friends. Gardening is something that we love to do as well. When we are outside Caicos is happiest as we can work and throw the ball to him at the same time. Of course, we spend lots of time walking Caicos throughout the neighborhood. Other times you can find us playing with our niece and nephew who live nearby. That always make us happy.
Adoption has played a significant part in our lives as Lisa and her only brother were both adopted. In our lives adoption just seems natural. Lisa was raised always knowing that she was adopted and therefore at the age of 3 thought it was perfectly normal to ask for a baby brother for Christmas. Although she was disappointed that she did not get to "pick him out," she was thrilled when her wish came true.
Through adoption Lisa was given a wonderful family and many opportunities and is very thankful for the decision that her birth mother made. We are now looking forward to raising a child in the same type of loving home.
Adoption is a common word in our lives and something we feel should be celebrated. Your child, in our family, will always know as much as we can share about his or her special story. There will never be a time when we sit down with your child and "tell" him/her that they were adopted. We feel your child's story will help them feel so proud and unique that it will be talked about often.
We fully understand as your child gets older he or she may have questions about his or her adoption. Both of us feel that we are prepared to answer these questions. Along with our own personal experiences, we attended classes to help prepare us. Since no two adoptions are alike, we will also encourage questions and provide open and honest dialog.
This is Caicos, otherwise known as Caicos the Wonder Dog. Caicos could have had a rough life, as he was found in a box in an alley by two policemen. Luckily, we were in the right place at the right time, and they asked us if we were interested in keeping him. Well ... one look at his big eyes and at that time little face, we had no choice but to take him home. We had only been married one month at the time so his name comes from the islands of Turks and Caicos, which is where we got married.
In Caicos' world it is normal to sleep in a king size bed and couches are for dogs. He loves everyone, and if you can throw a ball you are instantly his best friend. Luckily, as much as he likes to play and go for long walks, he understands the importance of a good snuggle too. Swimming is another favorite of his, so luckily there is a dog beach nearby and he has a little pool in the yard.
We are so happy to have him in our lives, and things just would not be the same without him.
