What Makes Us Unique
Experiencing the Night Life in Times Square, New York City

From the first time we met, our lives have been defined by pursuing the unexpected. That pursuit is marked by our natural curiosity of the world around us.

Snorkeling

Sometimes our inquisitive minds lead us to simple things like stopping at historical markers to learn new lessons about our state. Other times our curiosity guides us to trying newly discovered recipes with unfamiliar ingredients.

We often insist on taking the path less traveled when we are on vacation. Many times we find ourselves eating in authentic local restaurants, ziplining through the rain forest or finding a beautiful deserted beach.

We can't wait to instill this pursuit of natural curiosity in our son or daughter and explore new paths with him or her.

Cultural Diversity in Our Lives
Catherine and Our Nieces

We consider ourselves lucky to live in a community that is culturally diverse. From our schools to our city's festivals, everyone respects and embraces each other's differences. This is one of the main reasons we are proud of the place we live.

We also consider ourselves fortunate to be part of a family that is culturally diverse.

Erik's sister was adopted from Korea as an infant. This meant that his family was able to learn about her Korean heritage through numerous experiences, such as Korean picnics and cultural events. Through these opportunities, Erik was able to learn about the country's traditions and build friendships with families who also shared her cultural background.

Cathy's sister-in-law and nieces are Hispanic. We have broadened our understanding and appreciation for their heritage by participating in family get-togethers, tasting delicious Mexican dishes and attending Hispanic cultural events that honor the community.

We truly look forward to celebrating the cultural background of our son or daughter. His or her heritage will be a point of pride in our family, and we will look for frequent opportunities to enrich our lives.

Type of Education We Will Provide

Education is an important priority in our lives. We've even made it an important part of our work -- Catherine is a teacher and Erik works for a college. We will teach our child that learning is a life -long journey that will lead to countless opportunities.

We are lucky to live in a community that shares our values. Our city has many high-quality schools and educational programs that are offered throughout the year. One of the best elementary schools is just a few blocks from our house!

We are looking forward to spending evenings with our child making connections between what is learned in the classroom and applying these lessons to his or her life. We can't wait to learn along with our child as we explore the wonders of the world.
