Cultural Diversity in Our Lives
Joy and Diego

Cultural diversity is part of who we are as a family today. We both come from different parts of the world and have grown up with other cultures. Learning to appreciate, respect and incorporate new customs from different countries has given us an opportunity to develop lasting relationships with great friends from around the world.

Family Picture in Segovia, Spain

Diego is from Argentina and his family is of Italian and Spanish descent. Spanish is the language spoken in the family and some Italian is incorporated as well. Diego's grandmother, all Italian Nonna Rosina, is 85 years old and still has more energy than all of us together. She always amazes us with her deliciously home-made meals; she has already started knitting the cutest wardrobe for the new baby!

Joy's cultural background is very rich too. Her mom is from Colombia from a large and loving family, part of which (some 40 people) live in Texas. They are a very close and always focus on giving each other support and well being. Joy's stepfather was born and raised in Texas in a family of Irish origin. He is a very kind and loving man that enjoys spending time with Isabella and the family. Joy's birth father, Dean Smith (deceased) was a strong and loving man, that instilled in her daughter his strong values and generosity. He was born in a family that lived in Texas for several generations, including a war hero from the Texas revolution.

What Led Us to Choose Adoption
Daddy and Bella

Since the beginning of our relationship, there was a strong connection between us regarding adoption. We always wanted to be biological parents, but also were aware of many children that were in need, and we wanted to give them the same opportunities we enjoy in life.

We also wanted to grow our family, and provide our children with an environment of shared joy only siblings can have. Isabella, our only child, started asking for a sister and we instantly knew this was the right moment to adopt.

Isabella is a very loving, sensitive, intelligent and energetic 4 year old. Not a day goes by she does not fill us with love and cherished memories. Her caring ways will make her a loving and protective older sister. Isabella has been longing for a sibling for some time now and is eager to hold them, kiss them, play with them and be their best friend. Her first day of school she drew a picture and told the whole class she was adopting a baby! We look forward to watching the children grow up together to be inseparable loving siblings.

Bella enjoys ballet and singing classes, and she has taken swimming and piano classes in the past. Watching her have fun while learning new things is a pleasure, and we look forward to doing the same with this child.

Education We Will Provide

We both think that, along with unconditional love and care, education is one of the most important gifts we can give our children. Not only will it provide for a way to make a living, but will also allow them to develop their natural strengths, and fulfill their potential to achieve hapiness.

For us, education starts at home, and we will focus on teaching them a strong set of values, including honesty, hard work and kindness. After that, in the preschool years, we will provide several opportunities to try different arts, sports, etc. so we can discover what their natural strengths and inclinations are. During primary and secondary school, wether we are living in our hometown in Texas or abroad in an international assignment, we will provide the best available education, public or private, this will be funded by Diego's employer.

Regarding higher education, we are ready to make all necessary efforts so this child will be able to attend any university they may choose, domestically or abroad.
