What It Means to Be Parents
Waiting for a Concert to Begin

Parenting is a major responsibility, but we know that it will also be the most rewarding thing we will ever do. With care, love, honesty and understanding we will keep this child safe and help him or her grow.

Sharon looks forward to being a stay-at-home mom. She can't wait to share her love of art and would secretly be thrilled to find a 3-foot high mural scrawled on the wall in crayon. It is very important to Sharon that this child is able to explore their creativity and imagination as well as pursue any interests that they may have.

Mark is looking forward to being a hands-on dad and children love him because he is a "big kid" at heart. Whether it is playing Guitar Hero with the boys or princess with the girls, Mark is always right there in the middle. Our nieces, nephew and friends' children all light up when they see him, yelling, "Uncle Mark, Uncle Mark!"

Becoming parents means the world to us. We want this child to grow up open-minded, to learn about and be respectful of the world around them. We both look forward to bath times, wiping runny noses, comforting scary dreams, picking up messes, and kissing boo-boos just as much as the times that will be filled with joy, laughter, and wonderment.

How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally
Mark's Family

Adoption is a very important part of our family. Mark's parents adopted both his older brother and sister at birth four years apart. Mark's siblings were both closed adoptions, which was the rule at the time. However, his sister was able to find her birth mom and has a growing relationship with her family. Mark's sister made the decision to begin her family through adoption and adopted her beautiful daughter from Russia. Our niece loves her adoption story and will tell anyone who will listen. She can't wait until the day she is able to visit Russia to learn even more. We are fortunate to have such an open family that was built through adoption. Each family member's adoption story is unique and each of them cannot wait to share their stories with this newest member of the family.

Our Pets
Mark with Our Cats

Jerry and Miró, our two cats, are adopted from the local animal shelter. Our tiger, Jerry (a.k.a. Jer-Jer Bear), is named after Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, and our black and white, Miró (a.k.a. Mr. MiróMiyagi), is named for the artist Joan Miró because the markings on his face resemble one of his paintings. They are two of the sweetest most entertaining cats. Each night they patiently wait for us to finish dinner because they know that "playtime" follows. They love to play fetch (they think they are dogs) and can spend hours chasing and retrieving their stuffed mice, running up and down the hall sliding, skidding and pouncing. They are a true joy and help to fill our home with fun, laughter, and lots of unconditional love.
