How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally

Adoption has affected our family in a profoundly positive way. Nancy's cousin formed her family through adoption, Nancy's niece is adopted, and several of our closest friends have also adopted. To us, adoption is a familiar and joyful experience.

We are expanding our own family through the miracle of adoption. Adoption was first introduced to us through Nancy's cousin. After years of attempting to conceive, Nancy's cousin adopted two beautiful children from another country. There was a huge celebration and much happiness with each adoption. Nancy's cousin and her husband are loving, devoted parents and their children are very happy. Several years later, Nancy's sister suffered from infertility and turned to adoption to expand her family. The result was the adoption of an incredible little girl. We became godparents and an aunt and uncle overnight. Our niece has brought great joy to our family. We have watched her grow and flourish for eleven years in a stable, nurturing environment. Four of our close friends have adopted children which have enriched their lives beyond measure. We feel very secure in knowing that a child we adopt will have many relatives and friends who are adopted and will feel a lot of comfort knowing so many others who are also adopted.

Now, we would like to expand our family through adoption. Our son Derek understands adoption, enjoys playing with his adopted relatives and friends, and is excited at the prospect of becoming a big brother. We are ready to open our hearts to a child we will love, nurture, and cherish forever.

Our Son Derek

Derek is our five year old son. He is the joy of our lives and we are filled with gratitude at the gift of parenthood. His aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins spoil him with love and attention. He is surrounded by a loving family that cares about him immensely. Living in such a caring environment, has made our son a happy, and carefree little boy. His boundless energy and enthusiasm make him an excellent athlete. Derek loves outdoor activities like bike riding, hiking, swimming, ice skating, sledding, and tee ball. He also loves trucks, cars, computer games, and our nightly board games.

Derek just graduated from pre-school. He loved pre-school because he enjoys being around other children. He made many friends because he is agreeable, good natured, and great at sharing. His graduation was a big event for Derek and our families. The morning of the graduation, Derek was so excited he was dressed and ready to go by 4 A.M.! His enthusiasm and excitement during the event was so much fun to watch- especially by his grandparents! After the ceremony we all went back to our house for a special celebration lunch. It was a great time. Everyone was so proud of him. We can't imagine what it will be like when he graduates from high school or college!

Derek is very excited about being a big brother. For years, he has been asking us about a brother or sister. He will be a kind, generous, protective, and loving brother. We hope he gets his chance soon.

Our Favorite Family Gathering with Nancy’s Family

Nancy’s Annual Family Reunion at the Beach

Since family is a priority in our lives, family gatherings are very important to us. Our favorite family gathering is our annual trip to a beachfront family resort on Cape Cod. All of us set aside time from our busy schedules to be at this vacation. Nancy's siblings who live out of state fly in with their families for this special gathering. We all meet at our parents' home and caravan to the Cape, with Nancy's Dad leading the way. We check into the hotel, where all of our rooms are side by side so we can easily visit each other. Then we quickly unpack and our family heads to the beach, which serves as "home base" during the days. We sit and talk, go on walks, and share food and drinks. We bring so many beach toys that we quickly become the most popular family on the beach. The children and adults build incredible sandcastles. We spend a lot of time playing together in the warm water. The children have a wonderful time climbing up on their uncles' and dads' shoulders to get tossed into the air for a fun landing in the water, throwing an old tennis ball around, and using our inflatable rafts to bob together in the waves.

After our fun day at the beach, we get cleaned up then dine together at a big table in a local restaurant. When we get back, all of us squeeze into one of our rooms to talk, laugh, and play cards, board games and charades. Everyone enjoys spending this time together and we look forward to the "Family Beachfest" every year.
