We have always loved the idea of adoption since our personal experiences have been so positive!
Benjamin was adopted as an infant to a warm, and loving family. When he was 18 years old, he contacted and met his birth parents and ever since remained in close contact - like extended family. The opportunity to have a relationship with his birthparents has allowed Benjamin to see where he gets his personality traits, characteristics and roots. It is a unique situation that has truly made adoption very special for Benjamin. Most importantly, Benjamin is proud to know his birth parents, and admires the difficult decision they made to place him for adoption. They gave him an opportunity for a truly gifted life.
Payal volunteered for an adoption camp for 8 years as a camp counselor. Here she got a first glimpse of what adoption means to parents and children, and the importance of the bond of love whether the children were brought in to families through adoption or biological means. Seeing these happy, well adjusted children, she always hoped to adopt herself one day.
It is our hope to instill the same sense of pride we have for adoption in the child. We want the child to know how brave, selfless and strong you were to place them for adoption. We feel that families come together in different ways, and as long as you have love, trust, and faith, then you will always be a strong family!
We are energetic people and love to explore as many things as we can!
Benjamin loves all sports including football, soccer, rock climbing, snowboarding, and surfing. He takes delight that he taught his siblings how to play soccer when they were little, and all have made their high school teams. Benjamin can't wait to teach these skills to the child as well.
Payal loves to spend her time dancing ballet, Indian, hip hop, and Salsa. She has taken 20 years of dance , and has 15 years teaching children. She used to choreograph/perform with a world travelling dance group which celebrated the diversity of Indian and American dance. Payal can't wait to teach the child the joy of music and dance.
We feel that we've been blessed with everything in our lives and therefore we love to volunteer for charities. Benjamin raised $10,000 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society by running races (2 half marathons and 4 full marathons so far). The money helps support cancer research. This charity is closest to his heart having lost family members to cancer.
Payal volunteers with an HIV/AIDS organization that provides free educational materials. She chose this organization because she saw that preventative education for HIV/AIDS could save thousands of lives and appreciated the need for such knowledge in poorer countries.
Benjamin's birth parents are a mixture of Brazilian, American and Filipino decent, but were born and brought up in the U.S. His parents are Irish, German and American and also were born and brought up in the U.S. Although his favorite holidays are the traditional American holidays, he grew up with an open heart to new cultural experiences. In fact his family happily participated in the Indian wedding traditions, and Payal's parents did the same with the American wedding!
Payal's parents moved from India to Colorado 35 years ago. Payal grew up speaking both English and Bengali (Indian language), celebrating both Indian and American holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas). Her parents strived to give her a balance of both cultures! She grew up spending time with the Indian community which is tight knit like a large extended family. The children play together like siblings and all the adults have the nicknames of "brother, sister, aunt, or uncle." Everyone celebrates joys, as well as supports people in tough times. The community is waiting with open arms for the new addition in our life.
