Since we live in Florida, we often hear "You live in a vacation spot, so what do you do when you want to get away?" It's because of that we love it so much. We are a car ride away from beautiful beaches, boating, and world renowned theme parks. There is so much to do, it makes the long weekends quite fun and active. That being said, when we want to get away and take a nice vacation, we really enjoy traveling out west to the cold for skiing and hiking in the mountains. Not many people say they head to the cold weather for vacation, but for us it's a welcome break and something we really enjoy. Living in the warm weather, the feeling of stepping outside with snow falling, and breathing in that cold mountain air is something that just puts a smile on our face. At the right age, this is something we look forward to sharing with your child and until then we can enjoy sledding and other fun winter activities. There are so many children on the slopes who are often much better than the adults!
In our leisure time, we really enjoy spending time together and being active. Being in Florida, we are able to spend a lot of time outdoors and participate in numerous activities. We like going to the beach and spending the day relaxing in the sand and surf. Seeing all the children on the beach making sand castles and playing catch always makes us smile. That's something we very much look forward to doing as parents. We also like to get out and go on bike rides and hike on the trails. There are numerous state parks near our house, as well as a beautiful biking trail that goes on for miles and is always bustling with people. Staying active is such an important aspect of our lives and we are looking forward to sharing that with your child.
When we are not out and about, we enjoy spending time around the house. We often have our friends and their children over and enjoy the activity it brings. The kids love playing in the pool while we cook food, watch football, and share some laughs together. Jon went to Michigan State and Keera to Penn State, so we love having the football games on and cheering on our favorite teams! There is not much we enjoy more than a full & active house of friends and family.
Every family has some type of tradition, whether passed on from childhood or newly created. Decorating the Christmas tree is something we always look forward to. Every year, our parents would buy us a new ornament for the tree, a tradition we've kept with each other. The result is a tree with ornaments ranging from home made ones when we were children, to those representing current things in our lives over the past few years. It's so much fun to open up those boxes and tell stories about each one and where it came from. We both remember how fun that was as children and certainly will make that a part of your child's life.
Another tradition which always gets a laugh is the 'red plate'! We have this ceramic plate that is bright red and says "You are special today." It seems silly, but as a child, the memory of getting the red plate sticks out as a great memory. For birthdays, report cards, sporting events, and many other occasions we will break out the red plate. It always gets a smile and a laugh.
We love exploring new places and are not ones to go back to the same place every year. Going to new places is something we really look forward to. From beach towns to ski resorts, we plan on continuing our tradition of exploration and creating new memories while always finding time to laugh and reflect on the old ones.
