How Adoption has Affected Our Lives
In 2004, we were blessed when our daughter, Jennifer Suzanne, was born. We adopted her through American Adoptions and it has been an amazing experience. Jennifer turned three in June, and we all feel very excited to add another child to our family. She is such a happy, nurturing child, who is very eager to have a baby brother or sister join our family. We cannot begin to tell you how much love and joy she has brought to our lives.
We spoke with Jennifer's birth mother on the telephone several times before Jennifer was born and spent much time with her and her family while she was in the hospital. What a wonderful experience! They showed so much love, not only for us, but for Jennifer as well, which will be forever etched in our memories. We write to her birth mother regularly and send pictures as well. We would be happy to do the same for you if that is what you wish for your child.
Judy's sister & brother-in-law have a son whom they adopted from Russia when he was 13 months old. Her cousin also has two adopted boys from Romania. So adoption is not something new in our family!
What We’ll Tell the Child About Their Adoption
Your child will always be secure in the knowledge that they have been well-loved and cared for since the very beginning of his/her life. He/she will be told that you made very difficult choices to assure that they would have access to more opportunities in life. Adoption is the ultimate gift of love; the child will know that in making this sacrifice, you were
giving beyond your own means-to ensure that he/she would thrive early in life as well as beyond. Since our first child, Jennifer, was also adopted, we already have a deep appreciation for the sacrifice of birth mothers. We hope to pass on our respect and gratitude to our children.
Education
Christmas Caroling
Education is more than simply a ticket to a higher-paying job; it is a doorway opening to limitless possibilities. It is learning about how to relate to yourself, as well as others, and how to make a meaningful contribution to society. As our children grow up, we will nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity about how the world works, which we hope will translate into a life-long love of learning. We will encourage the child to explore the arts and sciences, as well as the mechanics
of industrial arts. And as he/she grows older, we will support their ambitions into college and trade school, wherever their interests take them. Most importantly, we will teach them to appreciate the freedom that education offers - not only the economic freedoms, but also the freedoms of thought and expression that can richly enhance one's life.
American Adoptions, a private adoption agency founded on the belief that lives of children can be bettered through adoption, provides safe adoption services to children, birth parents and adoptive families by educating, supporting and coordinating necessary services for adoptions throughout the United States.
