We believe adoption is just one of the ways God works all things together for good. We have always wanted a family and are excited that adoption will give us the desires of our hearts. We both had great parents who shared time, love and wisdom with us, and we want to do the same for a child. We admire your strength and courage and wish you peace during this difficult decision.

Our Leisure Time
We Love to Go Back to Charleston, South Carolina for a Family Vacation One Day!

Our favorite activities are ones that allow us to spend time together. We love to travel and have shared several once-in-a-lifetime adventures. But, we can also have fun walking around the block. We enjoy camping but also like to sit by the crackling fire in our own den. We can quickly wear out a pair of shoes hiking, jogging, or teaching the dog new tricks. We love cooking hamburgers on the grill as much as eating out at nice restaurants. Some weekends are filled with movies, concerts, local festivals or hiking to waterfalls. Some are spent just sitting on the front porch and reading a good book. We attend a very active church which has a tremendous children's program. Glenn enjoys thinking he can beat Melissa in Scrabble, and she enjoys showing him how to be a good loser! Melissa loves to listen to Glenn play the guitar - everything from serious love songs to silly ditties he's written to make people laugh. Glenn loves Melissa's home cooking, especially when she tries out new recipes. Our weeks are a mixture of new, exciting things and the everyday simple things in life.

Walking Our Dog at a Local Park

We look forward to new activities like bedtime stories, playing in the yard and visits to Chuck E. Cheese (our niece's favorite). We know action movies will quickly be replaced with Disney features, but we can't wait!

What It Means to Be Parents
Another Story for Our Nephew

For us, being parents will mean that a birth mother trusted us with the greatest gift a person could give. We will have the joy and responsibility to show this child a love with no end.

It's a Close Call Who's Having More Fun - Glenn or Our Niece

We expect to anxiously watch and wait for the next expression or milestone, trying to capture each perfect moment in photos to share with family and friends. We also know being parents will mean a lot of sleepless nights in the early years and shared diaper duty, but we've waited years to share these every day moments with each other and a child.

Through the years, we want to help the child explore and discover hidden interests. If the child wants to paint, we'll provide paint and paintbrushes. If the child's interested in stars, we'll provide a telescope and spend evenings watching the skies. Being a parent means never giving up and believing the best - and most of all - just being there.

Being parents will be a dream come true for us. We hope that by being caring, involved parents we can help this child's dreams come true as well.

Discussing Adoption
Relaxing at a Cabin in the Mountains

We'll raise a child that understands that birth mothers who choose adoption are amazing people, and adoption is a blessing. We'll look for opportunities to talk about how God makes all things work together for the good, how He sometimes leads a birth mother to a couple that can't have children.

We also will have a 'Life Book' to include tangible mementos like pictures and documents to help tell the story. It could begin with the biological birth mother. We'd love to include ways to describe birth mom (tall, short, silly, serious ...) and maybe hobbies (poetry, art, music ...). We'd like to ask for other things we could include, if that is something you are comfortable sharing. It could also include photos soon after the birth.

But there's no way we could fully explain adoption without using words like grace, courage, trust, gift and love. We'll read the Life Book often as the child grows. We'll also use books and videos that were suggested by several friends that have adopted. We'll connect adopted children together so they understand that it's both normal and special.
