How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally
Two years ago a very special little boy came into our lives. His name is Joey, he is Beth's brother and sister-in-law's son, he is our nephew and our godchild, and he is adopted. When Joey's birth mother chose Beth's brother Tim and his wife Tina to adopt him she blessed our whole extended family with her decision. Joey was welcomed into the family with open arms and lots of love. He has since blossomed into a healthy, happy and incredibly active toddler! We don't think of
him as "the adopted child", he is simply another member of the family, and we can't imagine our lives without him. It's been such a pleasure to watch him grow and to be a part of his life. He also helped us to realize that we too, wanted to build our family through adoption.
What We’ll Tell the Child About Their Adoption
We will always be open and honest with your child about his or her adoption. We will make sure they know, first and
foremost, they are loved by everyone in both their birth and adoptive families, and that after a lot of thought and careful consideration, you chose us to be his or her family. We want your child to feel comfortable asking questions about you and his or her adoption, and their presence in our family will always be thought of as a wonderful blessing and a gift.
Your child will be able to share his or her experiences and feelings with us, as well as with their cousin Joey, who is also adopted. He or she will never feel "different" for having been adopted and will be encouraged to always follow their dreams in life.
Our Leisure Time
Hiking in Maine
Between the two of us we have a ton of hobbies, passions, interests and we love to do anything outdoors. Bill participates in a men's golf league every Monday evening in the spring and summer. He also enjoys kayaking and fishing whenever he gets a chance. Beth meets with her book group once a month and is always in the garden tending to her flowers and herbs.
Together we spend time working out, hiking, bike riding and boating with friends. We also like to travel and really love going to the beach. We especially enjoy vacations where we can combine some of these activities, like bike riding on the beach in South Carolina, hiking up a mountain on the coast of Maine, or fishing in Bermuda, (where Bill caught a one hundred pound fish one year!).
We also like to cook together in our new kitchen and entertain in our home often. We are always trying new menus and are constantly on the lookout for the "perfect" recipe. Our current favorite is Mediterranean style pasta with tomatoes, lemon juice, garlic, green onions, herbs and feta cheese; served with lemon grilled chicken, it's fabulous!
