Jack-6 years old
Jack
Five years ago, we were blessed with the birth of our son, Jack. He is a sweet, affectionate, intelligent little boy with a great sense of humor. Like his father, Jack loves sports. He spends a lot of time playing basketball in his playroom or hitting baseballs in the backyard. He also takes swimming and tennis lessons and is working hard toward getting his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. In the warm weather months, Jack plays in soccer and T-ball leagues (and this spring his dad is going to be his T-ball coach). In addition to sports, Jack has a keen interest in music, books and movies. He constantly makes us laugh with his funny made-up songs or his silly reenactment of a favorite movie part.
We have a few family rituals with Jack that will include your child as well. Every night at dinner each person describes their day. It has to start with "My day was [fill in an adjective]" and end with "and now I'm having dinner with you fine folks." At night, Ginger reads a story to Jack first and then Jeff and Jack make up their own stories.
Jack will be a great big brother. He adores other children and is particularly fascinated with toddlers and babies. We discussed our plan to adopt with Jack. As part of our conversation, Jack asked, “Can I tell the baby’s Mommy that we will take very good care of the baby for her?” Jack cannot wait to have a baby brother or sister to hug, kiss and love.
Type of Education We Will Provide
Ginger was raised in a family that placed a heavy emphasis on education. Many of Ginger's relatives, including her grandparents and parents attended Indiana University. Ginger followed this tradition by obtaining her undergraduate degree from there as well. Following in her father's footsteps, she too received her law degree.
Jeff's parents provided him with a solid academic background at one of the best local Catholic schools. Jeff was the first person in his family to obtain a college degree. He continued his education and also obtained a law degree.
We believe it is important for children to have the best education available. We chose to live in a community that has a top-rated school system. However, we know there is more to learning than reading textbooks and attending school. We believe children should be exposed to a variety of new experiences, different cultures, and different places. We spend time traveling, visiting local museums, attending the theater, and going to sporting events. Recently, Jack went to the King Tut exhibit which sparked an interest in Egypt and ancient cultures. He also attended the musical "Wicked" which led to a curiosity about costumes, actors, and the production of a play. Jack also has been to several sporting events where he has learned about scoring, the rules of the games and, most importantly, that even if losing, never give up. Always play as hard and as well as you can.
Our Puppy, Dibs
Jack and Dibs
Jack has longed for a sibling from the time he learned to talk. Last fall, in an attempt to provide him with some companionship, we got him a seven-week-old puppy. Dibs is a small black and white Pomapoo, who weighs in at just 4 pounds and probably will not get much bigger. Dibs is an affectionate, energetic, and protective puppy - he thinks he weighs much more than his petite 4 pounds. He is the perfect size for Jack to snuggle and play with.
Jack and Dibs have become fast friends and Jack is a big help in taking care of Dibs by feeding him, playing fetch with him, taking him for walks and giving him a bath. Every morning Dibs cannot wait for Jack to come downstairs and greet him, even though Dibs knows it may be a day where Jack puts him in a play baby stroller or chases him around the dining room table. Dibs makes all of us laugh and Jack
regularly refers to us as a family of four now, including Dibs as one of the family members. We hope that Jack will soon be able to call us a family of five.
