What We’ll Tell the Child About Their Adoption
We believe that adoption is a wonderful way to create a family, and we want this child to understand that as well. We know that it takes a tremendous amount of love and bravery for you to place your child for adoption. We will always make sure that this child knows the enormity of your decision and how much love went into every detail of the process. We will answer any of the child's questions openly and honestly through the years. We believe that by us speaking positively about our adoption experience, the child will come to understand that he or she is a blessing in the lives of many people. Amy plans to write a short book for this child explaining how our family came to be. This will hopefully become a bedtime favorite! We are also part of an adoption support group, so this child would be exposed to other children who share similar experiences. Our friends and families are also very supportive of our adoption plans and would reinforce our positive approach to the adoption story.
Games, Events, Hobbies, etc. We Look Forward to Sharing with a Child
Where to begin! We have lots of ideas about things we can't wait to enjoy with a child. Rob has fond memories of playing
a variety of sports with his dad. The most lasting memory is simply playing catch in the yard while talking and just being together. Rob especially believes that there are many opportunities to teach life lessons through sports, as long as it is kept in perspective. We both enjoy traveling and the fun of exploring a new place. We look forward to seeing Disneyland, Sea World, and other "kid friendly" places as a family. There are also local fairs, festivals, parades, and holiday activities that are perfect for little ones with big imaginations! This year we started new traditions with extended family vacations on both sides. In May we went with Amy's family for five days of sight-seeing in and around Gatlinburg, Tennessee. For Thanksgiving, Rob's side of the family rented a cabin there for a long weekend as well. The place was big enough for all seventeen of us…and there was even enough room in the kitchen for all of the cooks! These are traditions that we hope to continue for years to come. At home, we enjoy board games, especially Yahtzee and Trivial Pursuit. Our niece has kept us up on children's games. She wins a lot, but we're improving! Amy's family also has family game nights every few months. Everyone enjoys the competition…and bragging rights at the end of the night!
Why Our Pet Is Important To Us
Our Family
Our "baby" right now is Bailey, our spoiled-rotten, sweet tempered, eleven year old terrier mix. As you can tell from our pictures, she is a very important part of our family and she knows it! We got Bailey from the pound shortly after we got married. She is the best birthday present Amy ever got! It was an adjustment for both of us, since neither of us had indoor pets as kids. She stole our hearts right away and never looked back! She has taught us how to love unconditionally and to find joy in loving and caring for another creature. She can make us laugh even when we don't feel like it with her goofy little habits. She is very healthy and extremely well-behaved around children. She loves any kind of attention…unless it involves her wearing the famous Santa hat or Easter bunny ears! Sometimes people tease us about how much we love her, but she really made us feel like a family from the beginning. She has been a great comfort to us while we wait for a child to come into our lives. We hope she's around for a long time and continues to be an important part of our growing family. We can't think of a better pet for a child to start to develop a lifetime love of animals.
