Family Traditions

We have many family traditions that range from getting together with both our families for birthday dinners and celebrations. However, our favorite family tradition takes place on Christmas Eve. This is such a fun event that the planning starts over Thanksgiving dinner; where we draw names for the Christmas Eve gift exchange. Also during the Thanksgiving break, Tammy puts together her Santa list, comprised of the neighborhood kids, friends, friend's children and family member’s children who she will send surprise Santa signed secret letters to. Tammy usually sends out about 40 letters to various children. This is a top secret project, some of the parents still haven't figured out where the letters come from, and Tammy enjoys stamping Mr. Claus' signature on each one, and hearing later from the kids about the great letters they received.

On Christmas Eve, Tammy's immediate family along with extended family of about 25 people arrives at our house around 4pm. Everyone prepares traditional Christmas food to share. After eating we all gather around to play games, watch movies or just catch up. Then we have everyone come to the family room where we participate in the much loved gift exchange that always brings much laughter and many smiles. After everyone has left for the evening, Julius & Tammy get to play Santa and deliver their godchildren's gifts before they awake on Christmas morning. We usually arrive at Tammy's parent's house first thing Christmas morning for breakfast and to exchange gifts with her immediate family. After lunch we head to Julius's parent's house to exchange gifts and have dinner.

Volunteering Our Time For Charity

We both find enjoyment in volunteering our time to good causes. We are very active in our goddaughter's traveling softball team. One of the many charity events the team uses to raise team funds includes a fundraiser golf tournament that we both participated in and helped with. In addition, we both volunteer our time to help at practices and attend as many games as possible to cheer on the team!

We both volunteer for many of our godchildren's school events. Julius is looking forward to chaperoning an upcoming school field trip to Hersheypark for our godson's class trip. Tammy has volunteered with our goddaughter's class to help with different holiday functions. Tammy was also very active this year in the Girl Scout cookie delivery in our area, after a co-worker, who was the “Super” Cookie Mom, recruited her for help, which she was glad to give. We have also participated in Christmas in April, which helps rebuild homes within the local community, and provides gifts and needed items for families in need with children.

What We Do For Fun

Out to Dinner with Family Friends

Our friends would say "fun" is our middle name, and some days we would have to agree. We both are firm believers that a good time is what you make of it. While we love to spend time together alone, we equally love our time with our friends and family.

Cookouts and gatherings at our home is a norm. We love to invite friends and neighbors over. Every July, we've gone on vacation with four other families and their children, to South Carolina for a week long beach getaway. In addition, we have four godchildren, two of which live very close to us; we love to show our support at their school and sporting events.

We also have embarked on an embroidery hobby which has proven to be a lot of fun for both us. We attend local craft and hobby shows throughout the year and even take embroidery requests from many friends and family. In addition, we also enjoy quiet evenings where we sometimes cook and clean together, as we discuss the happenings of each of our days. Another thing Tammy has recently begun is scrapbooking, which has been very fun and relaxing. We look forward to the time when we can share all our fun times and start making memories with a new addition to the family.
