Education We Will Provide

We have had the opportunity to see many places in the world (Italy, France, Germany, Spain-England of course, Singapore, Japan and Brazil) and hope to share traveling with our children. We love learning and experiencing new things. We want the same for children- to experience the wonders of America, the Grand Canyon, Disney World and see other wonderful places outside of America. We want to share that with your child.

We have a room in our house we call the library/office. One of the walls will be a mural of the world. This is the place we hope to spend time with our children doing homework and activities. The map is our way of linking the places we were both born. We think it is important for them to know about the wonderful country that we live in, but also all of the other wonders of the world.

We believe it's important for children to be exposed to many things - sports, academics, music, culture and the arts. This will help to keep them well rounded and give them the opportunity to choose what activities or hobbies they would like to be involved in. We also consider education an important opportunity that should be provided to every young adult. Michigan has some of the finest colleges and universities in the United States to choose from!!

Our Adoption Experience

We were nervous when we first started the adoption process, but from the first time we spoke to Kierah's birth parents with the help of our adoption specialist, we knew it would be alright. Over the next few months before Kierah was born we spoke a few times over the phone and got to meet with them. That was a great day; we got to know each other better. The day Kierah came home with us was bittersweet, but we promised to keep in touch. We still communicate and send pictures via email regularly. I'm confident both birthparents (and their families) and Gavin and I all agree that it was a more positive experience than we expected. Gavin and I look forward to expanding our family through adoption and Kierah getting the honor of being a big sister to your child.

Our Family Traditions

Christmas in England

We love the holidays because they bring the family together. As we live several hours from our families…we try to spend time with everyone when we visit.

Each year we spend Thanksgiving in New Jersey with Cyndie's family-her sister cooks the dinner every year for all 18+ of us. We enjoy a family dinner, football and games with the kids. The thing we love about the Thanksgiving weekend is that there are four whole days to spend together when nobody has to go to work…so we can spend plenty of quality time together-the holiday lasts for more than a few hours.

We then spend ten days in England for Christmas. We go to London to see Buckingham palace where the Queen lives and see the lights. We spend a day with Gav's close University friends and then the rest of time with the family. On Christmas Eve we go to Church as a family and then we wait for Father Christmas to arrive-when we wake in the morning we normally open our stockings and then go to Karen (Gav's sister's house) for Christmas dinner. We enjoy catching up on things and we normally play brainteasers. The day after Christmas in England is special as well and it is called Boxing day-we normally go to London to Gav's Auntie Ann's and spend the day and have dinner.

We also are sure to do something special with each of our nieces/nephews to be sure that they feel part of the family. They get quality time with us, whether it’s going to lunch, movies, watch them play sports, or shopping. It's time we get to really talk and makes us closer. We expect we will have the same fun traditions as our family grows.
