What We Like Most About Being Parents

The thing that we like most about being parents is the influence that we play in the type of person that our child will become. It is very important for us to raise a child that respects other individuals and knows how to make the proper decisions in life. Being a parent is a huge responsibility because children do what they see their parents do. This was reinforced recently when we visited some friends that we hadn't seen in a while. They later commented about traits they saw in our daughter's behavior to things they saw in us.

Another thing that we love is simply seeing our child happy and having fun. As parents you have to be careful not to spoil them or the child will always want more and is never happy, but it is a thrill to see a child with a smile and having fun. This can be as simple as playing at the park, reading books, or going swimming. It can also be done through more special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas morning, or doing fun things on vacation. There is something special about seeing a happy and outgoing child.

Our Daughter, Olivia

Olivia is three years old and she has a great personality. She is very out-going, but at the same time can be very caring and loving. She has a very good friend that she plays with frequently. This little boy is about to become a big brother and she is excited to become a big sister. She loves to take swimming and gymnastics lessons. Every once in a while she will be in the middle of a lesson and all of a sudden she will pop her head up, look at us with a big smile, and give us a big wave.

We recently went to Disney World for the first time. Her favorite ride was the magic carpet ride from Aladdin. She discovered there was a camel that would squirt water at the carpets as they went around. Needless to say, she found it very amusing to try to fly the carpet at the right height so that it would squirt mommy and daddy. Of course when it came time to leave and we asked her what her favorite part of Disney World was, she said going swimming in the hotel pool everyday and then she quickly added the magic carpet ride. She also loves to have books read to her. Every night before bed we read at least three books. She looks forward to being able to read to a new baby brother or sister.

Pets Are Important

Maggie, Our Dog

We were both raised on farms and that lifestyle lends itself to being very involved with animals. As a result we both had a variety of pets growing up. We currently have a female miniature daschund named Maggie. Of course most kids call her a wienie dog. She absolutely loves children. She was nine months old when we adopted Olivia and instantly became very protective of her. Maggie loved lying next to Olivia as a baby and when Olivia began to use her hands she would periodically grab Maggie's ear. Of course when this happened we would remove Olivia's hand, but sometimes before we could do that Maggie would give Olivia a lick up the side of the face and then Olivia would let go. Maggie has been around babies since that time and continues to act the same way.

Maggie is always there to greet us with a wagging tail when we come home, no matter what type of day we have had. On those rare occasions when we get home late and put Olivia straight to bed Maggie must see that Olivia is at home and in bed, otherwise she will scratch on Olivia's door trying to get in to make sure she is safe at home. We all love taking Maggie on walks and playing with her. We always plan to have a pet in our household.
