Our Adoption Experience

We have always known that we wanted to raise a family, so when we were unable to conceive, we sought the help of infertility specialists. Our attempts were unsuccessful. We decided to build our family through adoption and are so glad that we did! In March 2005, we were blessed with the adoption of our daughter Caroline.

Caroline was placed with us when she was nine days old. Since the moment we knew about her, we were madly in love. Caroline has brought us more happiness than we could ever describe. She has also stolen the hearts of all of our family and friends. Caroline is now three years old and is ready and waiting to be a big sister!

We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet with Caroline's birthparents prior to Caroline being placed with us. Not knowing what to expect from this meeting, we were really nervous. However, we were quickly put at ease by a mutual sense of respect and trust. Caroline's birthparents were kind, warm, and courageous, and they will always be in our hearts for the amazing gift that they have given us. We share pictures with Caroline from this day so that she can better understand her story. Looking back, it was an experience that we wouldn't have missed for the world.

What We Do for Fun

Steve is a talented cabinet maker and has enjoyed remodeling our home, one room at a time! He also enjoys mountain biking and running and is proud to say that this past fall he ran the New York City Marathon! Andrea enjoys reading, walking, and working in the yard. Andrea loves taking pictures of family and friends and hopes to one day take a class to learn more about the art of photography. Since we love the outdoors, a great source of relaxation and fun for us is going on walks or hikes with Caroline and our dog Trooper. We also enjoy swimming and lounging by the pool or sitting on our deck at night looking at the stars.

Both of our families have always believed that games bring people together. We enjoy playing games with our families, friends, or with each other on a quiet night at home. Some of the games that we love include pool, darts, cards, and board games, but we're always up for any game that involves a little friendly competition! We recently put up a basketball hoop in our driveway and are getting a lot of use out of it already! We look forward to sharing all of these activities as a family, and we plan to teach good sportsmanship and the value of being a team player.

Vacations

Sailing in the Bahamas

We have always loved the outdoors, and getaways that allow us to enjoy nature are the best. Through college we spent many wonderful weekends hiking, biking, camping, and backpacking nearby. Now that we are married and more established, we are able to travel to further destinations. We continue to choose places that offer outdoor activities and adventure.

One of our favorite vacations was to the Bahamas. We chose a resort there because of one thing: it offered "circus school" training! Andrea had always wanted to experience the flying trapeze, so as soon as she heard that they had a trapeze, she knew that this was the place that she wanted to go! Steve, who will try anything, didn't need much convincing. Once we got to the resort, we were so excited to see that the trapeze was located right on the beach. We both went through the training and had a blast! It was a fabulous experience, and one that we will never forget!
