Our Lifestyle
Our lifestyle is warm, comfortable, and filled with laughter. We try to keep things simple and understand the importance of finding joy in the little things. From a basic trip to the grocery store to running errands at the mall, we enjoy being together and try to do most things as a team. We have a talent for finding the fun and humor in almost every situation, and will catch ourselves singing and dancing to music at stoplights or spraying each other with water while working in the yard. We feel at ease with who we are and what we have made together.
For fun we like to do a variety of things. We have a family tradition of picking peaches in the summer (and apples in the fall), and then going around to our friends and family and delivering the fresh fruit. In the winter, we love to bundle
up, drive out to a tree farm, and cut down our own Christmas tree. We enjoy attending live events, including the theater, symphony, and a variety of sporting events, especially baseball, hockey, and college football. Since we are big Nebraska Cornhusker football fans and Paula's father has season tickets, we try to go to at least one home game a year. During the summers, Fritz has time off so it is a great opportunity to travel. Some of our favorite memories are from trips together: attending a ghost tour of Colonial Williamsburg, walking through the giant redwoods at Muir Woods just outside of San Francisco, learning how to drive on the left side of the road in Ireland, and taking a special behind-the-scenes tour of the White House while in Washington, DC. We love to experience new things together.
Coaching
As a high school teacher, Fritz has had the opportunity to coach a variety of sports. Currently he coaches a boys' high school swimming and diving team in the fall, and a girls' team in the winter. Paula has taken on the unofficial job as Fritz's assistant and coaching has become an important pastime for both of us. Through these teams, we not only encourage the athletes to meet their potential, we promote the values of sportsmanship and teamwork. Over the years, we have watched many young men and women grow in maturity, confidence, and ability. We have learned the art of working with adolescents (their enthusiasm and spirit is infectious), and just how important good role models can be in a young person's life.
Our Pets
Captain, Our Cat
We both were raised with pets in our homes. Dogs, cats, hamsters, gerbils, birds, and fish were all present at one time or another. Caring for an animal and also having that animal as a friend and playmate were important to each of us growing up. Our animals were not only great companions; they also became members of the family.
Currently, we have a Maine Coon cat named Captain Whiz-bang (Captain for short). Paula named him after a cat in one of her favorite children's books. He is a wonderfully fluffy and loving cat with a gentle nature. He has many dog-like behaviors, including playing fetch with his toys, watching for the mailman, carrying loose socks around from room to room, and greeting us as soon as we walk in the door. He also loves to be in the thick of things. For example, he watches Fritz shave in the morning, helps Paula with the laundry, and any time we are on the computer, he walks back and forth in front of the monitor. He has definitely enriched our lives and become part of our family.
