What We Will We Tell Our Child about Their Adoption
Our goal is to create an environment that celebrates adoption and how it brought us together as a family. We want your child to know that it was only possible because you share the same love, hopes and dreams for him/her that we have. Our highest priority will be letting your child know the strength and courage your decision required and it was made out of love with his/her best interests at heart. We will let your child know that we are a family because of the selfless and generous choice that you made.
With that in mind, we intend to be honest and open when discussing your child's adoption from the start. Knowing who you are and your history are vital to growing up, no matter who you are. We will make sure your child feels comfortable asking questions and answer them as completely as possible, in ways your child can understand at the time he/she asks.
The most important message we will convey to your child that heshe is special and loved by both birth parents and adoptive parents --- a true gift to all of us.
Why Our Pets Are Important To Us
Our Pets, Buddy and Gracie
Pets are a big part of our lives. Both of us grew up with multiple pets, so it was only natural we'd do the same in our own home.
We have a golden retriever, Buddy, and a cat named Gracie. Both were rescued at a young age. We feel strongly about rescuing animals. Every pet deserves the chance to have a happy home.
We rescued Buddy a few years ago, when he was about a year old. We were told he had already been through multiple homes and could be "too energetic". While his energy has, at times, taught us the value of patience, it's this same energy that has endeared him to us. Whether playing ball at the park, howling back at a fire siren or slipping between us on the couch to watch TV, he brings so much fun and joy to our lives. It's this kind of spirit we think is important for a child to experience. Buddy also teaches us, and hopefully a child, the responsibility of caring for something that relies on you completely.
Judy rescued Gracie when she was a kitten and little did she know what she was getting into. Gracie has a BIG personality! She took some time to warm up to Tom, even throwing up on him while sleeping on the couch, soon after they first met. But she came around, and now greets Tom every morning when he gets up first to shower. Like Buddy, Gracie adds to the warmth and joy in our home on a daily basis.
