How Adoption Has Affected Us Personally

Adoption has affected us in a positive way by which words can not fully describe. Three to four years ago, we faced very difficult infertility issues. After going through expensive tests and procedures it was decided we would not have children on our own. Thankfully, we made the best decision of our lives. We adopted our one and only child. It has been the best two years of our lives ever since.

Our inability to have children on our own was for a reason and that reason is adoption. We have always planned to have two children and now more than ever we understand this is the way it was meant to be.

You, as a woman considering adoption need to know and understand how special you are. We met a warm, intelligent and caring mother when we met our little boy's birthmother. She selected us to care for her unborn child. We met several times in the months leading up to Grant's birth. We spoke of family values, dreams, job, colleges, and many more topics. We met other family members of Grant's birth family as well. Our goal was to learn about one another so that we would feel more comfortable with what is an emotional process. Adoption has affected so many people in our family in such a positive way. Remember, you are a very special person who will make dreams come true because of adoption.

Fun Games, Events and Hobbies We Look Forward to Sharing with Your Child

In Dallas for a Big 12 Basketball Tourney

There will never be a dull moment for our children. Jennifer and Grant spend many hours together reading and looking at picture books. Jim enjoys going out in the boat and spending time on the water fishing. Grant caught his first fish before he was 18 months old. We also go canoeing on local rivers in the National Park near our home while on camping vacations with our family. We both enjoy going to University of Kansas basketball games and will no doubt be taking the children as they get a little older. Fortunately, we live fairly close to a minor league baseball team. They have a beautiful ball park and we have attended several games already as a family. Playing catch with a baseball will be a must. When Grant is blessed with a brother or sister, he will be responsible for sharing his experiences.

As the children grow a little older, a vacation to Hawaii is already in the plans. We also plan to vacation as a family to Disney World, the Rocky Mountains, snowmobile tours at Yellowstone Park in Wyoming and fishing in Canada. Whatever the activity may be, we were both raised in close families and we plan on continuing that tradition.
