What We Will We Tell Our Child about Their Adoption
We will be very open with your child about their adoption. We want the child to know that all the decisions made concerning their adoption were made out of love.
The child will know that your decision to bless our family with a child was made with love and self-sacrifice. You chose to give your child the best life you could, and carefully chose a wonderful family to bless.
The child will know how we anxiously awaited their arrival. How we prepared a special nursery, and bought new and fabulous baby gear. But most importantly, the child will know how we prayed to God to receive the wonderful gift that they are.
Your child will always know that they are a treasured gift from God, and you. Your child will know that their adoption was a dream fulfilling experience for us. Love comes into our lives in many forms. Adoption is just one of the many ways God delivers love into our lives.
Our Family Traditions
Our family traditions tend to be centered around holidays. Melissa's favorite tradition is gathering together at our home with friends and family on Thanksgiving. She loves to cook, and enjoys cooking food that reflects the part of her heritage rooted in the South. Cranberry glazed turkey, sweet potato-pecan casserole, cornbread dressing, all the favorites! We all eat together, and watch football. The best part of the day is sharing all the laughter and fun.
Halloween is Chris' favorite. He loves when we all dress up and act silly. We especially love the trick-or-treaters. Our
tradition is that Chris comes home early from work on Halloween. We put on our costumes and decorate our treat bags. Our daughter loves to pass out the candy to the other kids that come to our door. It is always such a fun day!
Our Christmas traditions are probably most dear to us. About 3 weeks before Christmas we go and cut down our own Christmas tree. That night we put on our Christmas pajamas and play our favorite Christmas carols. We spend the night decorating the tree, singing and dancing.
On Christmas Eve we have a huge dinner with friends and family. We go to midnight Mass and then go home and wait for Santa. It is
wonderful on Christmas morning to see our daughter's eyes light up and twinkle with the lights on the tree when she sees all of her gifts from Santa. But as we know from experience Christmas morning is the most fun when shared with a brother or sister.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
St. Augustine Beach, Florida
We love to vacation in St. Augustine, FL. Melissa's parents have a vacation home on the beach there. It is a great place, with 2 swimming pools and just steps from the Atlantic Ocean.
As the nation's oldest city, St. Augustine has a rich history. There are so many family friendly things to do, and Disney World is less than 2 hours away! We love to relax together as a family in this laid back city. We swim in the pool and build sand castles on the beach. Our daughter's favorite place is the Alligator Farm. She loves to watch the fun shows about reptiles, birds and other wildlife. She can't wait to take a brother or sister there and teach them difference between an alligator and a crocodile! On occasion we have even been known to head up to Jacksonville for a Jaguars game.
We love to travel and this is our favorite place to relax. However we try to spend time in other places as well. The best education a child can get is to see the world.
