Our Adoption Story

We adopted our son, Eric, through American Adoptions in 2005. While we didn't necessarily know what to expect before we went through the process, it has turned out to be the most rewarding experience of our lives. Prior to our deciding to adopt, we had attempted several infertility treatments, but were unsuccessful. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise! We eventually realized that God had other plans for us - to provide a loving home to a child entrusted to us through adoption. After experiencing the unique honor of being selected by a birth mother and the incredible joy of receiving our son through adoption, we decided that adoption was definitely how we wanted to add to our family a second time.

Eric is now two-and-a-half years old and is very excited to have a baby brother or sister in the house. He is full of energy and seizes life with such enthusiasm and passion. He also has such a sweet and tender spirit. It is so much fun to look at life through the eyes of a little one. On our recent trip to Disneyland, we thoroughly enjoyed watching Eric look at the Disney characters with a genuinely innocent belief that they were real. He has been quite a fan of Mickey Mouse on the Disney Channel, so the highlight of our Disneyland experience was watching him run full speed toward Mickey to give him the biggest hug possible! We all slept with smiles on our faces that night!

Fun Games, Events and Hobbies We Look Forward to Sharing with a Child

We look forward to sharing the same wonderful activities with another child that we enjoy sharing with Eric. At home, we love to play in the sandbox, swing on the swing set, play games and sports in the yard, read books, and just "hang out" as a family. Within our community, we enjoy going to festivals, football and baseball games, fireworks displays, pumpkin patches, and Christmas tree farms. Mike and Eric especially enjoy fishing at the lake where Mike's mom lives. Before Eric was born, we used to go camping every year - our favorite spots being Mt. Hood and Yellowstone National Park. We cannot wait to take Eric and a younger sibling along on campouts when they get a bit older.

Another event we really enjoy is birthdays!! We have enjoyed making Eric's birthdays very special and can't wait to add another birthday to the calendar!

What it Means to Be Parents and Our Strengths

The Circus Comes to Town!

Parenthood encompasses so many roles! First and foremost, to be parents means to provide a loving, secure home for a child. Our home is filled with so much love. We love each other, treasure each other's presence in our lives, and share that love so deeply with our son, Eric. That kind of love is just waiting to be extended to another child. As parents, we provide unconditional love and support for our son and would do the same for your child.

We like to have a lot of fun in our house. Even before we adopted our son, we often had tickle fights and laughed until our sides hurt. This has certainly not changed with a little boy in the house, who provides many opportunities for laughing and being silly! (Recently, Mike put Eric's swimming trunks on his head and sang a really funny song. Ingrid and Eric laughed so hard they thought they were going to be sick.)

To be parents means to be role models. As Christians, we would provide a Christ-centered home, teaching through example such characteristics as honesty, trust, patience, kindness, giving, and sharing. To be parents also means to be teachers. As parents, we try to teach the consequences of different decisions, so that a child grows up being able to make wise decisions on their own. Our desire would be to raise your child in such a way as to build self confidence.

American Adoptions, a private adoption agency founded on the belief that lives of children can be bettered through adoption, provides safe adoption services to children, birth parents and adoptive families by educating, supporting and coordinating necessary services for adoptions throughout the United States.
