Richard & Alice

A little like Austin Powers, we are an international couple of some mystery. Richard is British, though he will soon have his US citizenship. We met at a reception at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, India. As diplomats working for the American and British governments, we have traveled extensively around the world and have always done our very best to serve our countries. After many years of living in Asia and Europe, in third world countries and dangerous places, we wanted to come home to North America in order to start a family. Now the most important thing in our lives is to provide a loving home for a child. In fact, we are blessed to be able to provide two such homes. We love the outdoors and for several years we have owned substantial property in the mountains of Montana. More recently we bought a house in Canada. We are very lucky to be able to split our time between these two beautiful places and we are excited about the possibility of sharing all of this with your child.

Our Cultural Heritage

Beyond being the international man of mystery, Richard's heritage may not be so exotic - an Old World, English Anglo-Saxon whose accent still sounds like something from a movie. He likes to drink tea and eat crumpets for breakfast. As a big fan of the Royal family and British history, Alice loved her time living in England with her knight in shining armor. Alice's heritage is definitely more exotic. Her mother is Korean and Alice was born in Korea. Korean was her first language. She loves spicy Asian food and the pickled cabbage called "kimchi". Richard has learned to love spicy food too, especially the many meals prepared by Alice, who is a great cook. But Richard has drawn the line at eating kimchi, which he likens to a fermented biological weapon!

Our Passions

We both love the outdoors. We have lived in some of the world's biggest cities, and we find great peace and spirituality in escaping to Nature whenever we can. It is the perfect antidote to the all too often hectic and career oriented modern life. Wherever we are, we deliberately seek out the countryside, the mountains or any other bit of wilderness we can find in our spare moments. It is why we fell in love with Montana and were lucky enough to buy property there many years ago. We spent several great vacations in the "Big Sky" State, enjoying the spectacular scenery and large grizzly bear population of Glacier National Park. We quickly realized that, in the lower 48, there was no better place to hear the call of the wild. We decided to build a home there, a base to which we could keep returning from our travels around the globe. So now we have our own patch of heaven - 160 acres of Rocky Mountain forest with the picture postcard log cabin. Most of our other passions revolve around the opportunities Montana and the cabin give us. We like to hike and camp, to ski and snowshoe and to walk our dogs in the woods. We roast marshmallows on the campfire and count shooting stars. Alice likes nothing more than to sit in front of the fire on a cold winter's day and read the latest book from one of her favorite authors. Richard loves to hunt and fish to put food in the freezer. He's also a pretty good handyman so installing solar electric power or building a workshop at the cabin have been challenging but manageable projects for him.

Our Pets

With Samson and Remi

We are both big dog lovers and lovers of big dogs. We have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, a slightly unusual breed that has a ridge of hair on its back that grows in the opposite direction from the rest of its fur, and was bred for hunting lions in Africa. Samson is 11 years old and came from a rescue organization in Texas, having been given up by his previous owners at the age of six. Remi is five years old and joined the family as a puppy in Pakistan. Though they might hunt the occasional squirrel in Montana, both are really just lapdogs at heart and super pets. Ridgebacks are known for being very loyal, alert and excellent with children. Our dogs have distinct "personalities" - Samson loves to rub his face on our (and our friends') legs and to sit on our feet. Remi likes to have her tummy tickled and loves going for long walks. They both love to go for rides. They are great company and highly affectionate. They are very important members of our little family and make us laugh, everyday.
